Now I am trying to move more music over and it only comes up as a media device and I have no idea how to make it work as intended again. it use to come up under my computer as if it were attached to my PC, now it is under network as the media device. any help/thoughts?

How did you move the music to the external drive in the first place? Was it connected to your computer or to your router?

The whole "Media Device" thing could be that your router has cleverly scanned your external drive and found a ton of music and decided that it would be better set up as a Media Device so other devices on the network can stream the music from it. Rather than have it set up as a NAS which often requires a Username/Password combo and often isn't greatly compatible with music streaming to other Media Devices on the network.
