Last night I upgraded my computer from WinXp to Win7. Everything works fine, except the wireless adapter I have installed. The drivers are installed, the device is enabled in device manager. However in tge network connections it won't connect. Ive checked through a few soloutions but so far nothing has worked. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

Ment to mention in network connections selecting Enable brings up enabling for a few seconds then it disappears and the device stays disabled.

It sounds like a driver issue, so maybe you'd need newer drivers. Also, make sure you don't have a physical switch for the wireless adapter that may be set to off.

Ill have to use a wired connection to try for newer drivers. The adapter im using is a Belkin 54G USB adapter. Since my N adapter stopped working. Its actually quite probable that it is a driver issue. So ill give that ago.

You could also try downloading several different drivers and revisions on a flash drive and then giving them a shot, but switching to wired might be easier. Also try removing all current wireless drivers, and then running Windows Update.

Are you using the driver given by the installer, or have you imported it from the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or wireless Device?

If you don't know the make/model of the Device and it isn't clear in Device manager>Network Adapters, trace the exact Hardware model using this tool: Hardware Identification

I know the exact make and model of the adapter. The driver I am using is the one supplied with the adapter, so it's quite outdated.

The tool you linked didn't appear mate. The result of the ethernet + adapters drivers was successfull. the wireless adapter worked untill i installed Avast anti-virus and restarted my computer due to some updates. Since then it hasn't worked, it is connected to my wireless network but refuses to enable in network connections.

Sorry the links are there now so you can trace bluescreen cause.

Are you saying driver was delivered by Updates when connected via ethernet which solved this?

If not righclick System Tray connection icon to Troubleshoot wireless.

Uninstall Avast if it is causing problems with your wireless which is so rare I can't remember it ever before, but possible. Install Microsoft Security Essentials instead.

Forgot to mention, i manually updated the drivers via device manager. And theres no option for me to troubleshoot wirreless.

I checked online for drivers for the Belkin 54G adapter & the latest drivers (if you can call it that) only mention Win XP as the latest compatable OS. You may have to buy something more up-to-date with Win 7 compatability.

Rightclick on connection icon in bottom right System Tray when only the wireless adapter is connected, select Troubleshoot Problems. It should give you an idea what the problem is.

Post up the bluescreen report to our Crashes Forum along with a description of the problem causing the crash.

I agree with that suggestion for MSE! I recently dumped Avast off my wife's PC - I can't remember why I hadn't installed MSE on hers. Avast recently added a Outlook Plugin that was causing lockups in Outlook, so it was time to go!

Ill give it a go. The thing is my computer defaults as a wired connection even when there is none and when i disable the wired connection it insists its still there.
