I tried windows Esentials movie maker and I like the way it works but all the live esentials stuff causes problems with my network. Any suggestions for free or cheap movie making software of free video editor and capture software. My main concern is that the software does not contain any hidden suprises.
Thanks.

Suggestion

Well one of the best freely available ones is Lightworks but it has a very steep learning curve.

You can check out the quick start guide (video) here: Downloads

The video is below the "Download" buttons.

For help with features (click through links on the left hand side of the page)

Video Tutorials

For other help videos and tutorials check: Video Tutorials & FAQs - Lightworks Forum

Note: Requires registration so it's probably best to use a disposable email address!

Also note that this software requires a lot of effort to learn how to use so it's not recommended if you just want a basic video editor.
