Need a new PSU

I have just bought a Nvidia GTX260 SOC and now need to upgrade my PSU to handle it well i am on a bit of a budget and am looking to spend abnout £55 on one. I was looking at this 1: Scan.co.uk: 650W Powercool PC650UM, Modular, 80%+ Eff', SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, 20+4 Pin, Low noise cooling fan but cant find any reviews on it so not sure if its good or not it looks ok to me. if not does anyone know of a good one thats hopefully modular but not a must have if not thats going to power my GTX 260 SOC and also needs to be SLI ready as im going to be SLIing my 260 very soon.

It's not a make I have heard of but that doesn't mean it's good or bad. Enermax, Corsair, Be Quiet, Thermaltake are all well known brands. I'd continue to search for reviews of the one you've seen. Might be a new make. J

That should tell you right there whether it is good or bad. From what I can find about that brand is it seems to only be available in the UK and looks to be sold as some sort of house brand by most of the online e-tailers. The only "reviews" for that make are to be found on some of the e-tailer sites, and of one of those I know that they delete any negative reviews.

Pay a bit more and get a known good quality power supply as this is the one component you do not want to cheap out on.

The one Steve linked to is a very good one with more than enough power for the new card, with added bonus of being modular.

I was thinking its true its worth paying the extra to get a reliable one and saw these 2 XFX 650W XXX Edition Single Rail Modular PSU - 13.5cm.. | Ebuyer.com or Corsair Memory TX650W 650 Watt PSU ATX (Special Price For One Week From 30/07/10) (CMPSU-650TXUK) - dabs.com now i like both makes as im a big fan of XFX and that 1 looks really good but i also like crosair as these i have seen in high end gaming builds which one is better i know crosair is better price wise as in the offer its really good but does it do SLI ok?

OCZ are a huge and extremely reliable company and make in my opion the best SSD's on the market amongt other things.

The Corsair PSU that you list has two PCI-E power connectors. The GTX260 needs two 6 pin, so you'd need to use adapters to SLI a pair of them. (Card makers often supply adapters, but rarely recommend them.)

The XFX supply has four PCI-E connectors (two 6 pin plus two 6+2 pin), so it'd do SLI without difficulty. It may not have enough current margin if the CPU is ever seriously overclocked, though.

Corsair PSUs have a favorable reputation, in spite of having had compatibility issues with some Asus motherboards. (That may have been due to nonstandard characteristics of the Asus boards, but that's cold comfort to an Asus board owner.)

Why don't you go for the Corsair 400W CX PSU from Ebuyer, it will only cost about £40 max probably less as they have them on offer most of the time.

I need a minimum of 550wats alone for the GTX 260 so 400wats is no where near enough also SLI with crosair should be possibe as it says SLI certified on there website also i was told while SLI the GTX260 each only nees 1 6 pin each as there are 2 of them not sure if thats true but thats what i heard

i have decided to get the XFX one as it will allow me to SLI easier later on and its modular making my case a lot more tidy.
