Need Help Installing Realtek Audio Drivers

I've spent a couple days trying to install the Realtek audio drivers onto my machine, but I can't get the installer to work properly. It looks like it's copied a lot of files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Realtek\, but after I restart there are only four files copied there and the drivers haven't been successfully installed.

These are the only drivers I've had trouble with, and I was wondering if someone could give me directions on exactly how to install the drivers. No one else seems to have had trouble installing them, so I must be doing something wrong.

Well I installed the Vista, Windows7 Driver(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file) from the link below with no problems. Is that the same driver your having problems with?

If your on x64 it should actually copy the drivers to here

C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA

Some more information, if it helps:

I'm trying to install version 2.27 of the driver for Vista and Windows 7. I downloaded the executable version of the driver (I took it off Realtek's FTP server, as all the other connections were dropping out).

When I run the installer, it finishes fine and restarts. But the Realtek drivers aren't used by Windows, and when I try to point the device manager towards the Drivers folder (using the Update Driver button), it doesn't find any drivers and decides to keep using the generic Windows drivers instead. Additionally, there is no Realtek Sound Manager in my control panel.

Hello Gamemakerkid, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Usually you will need to install the Realtek drivers twice. The first time uninstalls the old driver, and the second time actually installs the new driver.

Installing it one more time should do the trick for you.

I dunno but could that be the problem?

EDIT: On a side note I just installed the latest HDA driver 22/06/09 and it dropped my ram usage by 10%

Usually you will need to install the Realtek drivers twice. The first time uninstalls the old driver, and the second time actually installs the new driver.

Installing it one more time should do the trick for you.

Just tried that. It didn't change the file tree under C:\Program Files (x86)\Realtek\ (though I don't know if it was meant to), and there's still no Realtek Audio Manager in my control panel.

I did notice this log in C:\ that looks to be from the installer. I'm quoting it below:

Is there possibly some kludgy way to manually install the drivers?

You might try the ZIP file download instead to run that setup file. Hopefully it will work better for you.

Try removing the previous driver via Add or Remove Programs. Then do a restart and start the Realtek Driver Install again. And you can try running it in administrator or compatibility mode. If that doesn't work either, try running it in Safe Mode because some other files that may be open in the normal mode may interfere with the installation. If none of this work, contact Realtek Support and they should be able to help you.

OK, I think my problem is the same. It is NOT solved BUT............
If I plug the headphone into the MIKE input I get a popup that asks what device I plugged in. If I select HEADPHONE, everything works like it did in XP -- except that the headphone is plugged into the mike port.


is yours the same?????????
