So I have a thread going on over at Ubuntu forums because I'm trying to dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu 13.1

Thought I'd bothered them enough for today and since my question isn't Ubuntu related I thought I'd ask here.

So I can only make 4 primary partitions. I was told to make an extended partition. No idea how.
My current layout for a roughly 600GB HDD is as follows:

  • C: 150 GB- Windows and Program files for it
  • E: 99MB-System Recovery
  • M: 300GB- Movies+TV (will be 250GB because I'm temporarily storing games from C: (which I will shrink to make room for I:) to M: until the games partition is created.
  • I: 100GB-Games (Haven't made yet)
All leftover space goes to creating partitions listed below

I'm guessing the best way to go would to make the M and I partitions part of an extended partition? How would I do this?

Advice I got from Ubuntu forums:

GPT: (all partitions are Primary)

  • 500Mb FAT32 'boot' flag (for EFI)
  • 50Gb NTFS Windows C:
  • 200Gb NTFS Windows D: (This partition can be used to share data between Windows and Ubuntu) 20Gb Ext4 '/' Ubuntu system files
  • 20Gb Ext4 Free (In case you want to try another Distro or another ubuntu flavor or version)
  • 4Gb SWAP
  • All the remaing GB Ext4 (you can either use this as '/home' or just plain Data partition)
===============================================================================
MBR/'msdos': (Only 4 Primary Partitons)
  • 50GB Primary NTFS Windows C:
  • 200Gb Primary NTFS Windows D: ((This partition can be used to share data between Windows and Ubuntu)
  • 20Gb Primary Ext4 '/' Ubuntu
  • All the remaining Gb EXTENDED
  • 20Gb Logical Ext4 Free (In case you want to try another Distro or another ubuntu flavor or version)
  • 4Gb SWAP All the remaining GB Logical Ext4 (Linux data partition).

How do I know which to use and what is the best way I could go about Partitioning for this given my current HDD layout?

Going to bed now, will check this when I have time tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!
