Hi, I am interested in building an OP gaming computer for under $2500, and I really have no idea where to start. I'm not very knowledgeable about the components needed to create one and any help would be most awesome. Someone I know suggested that these components would be good:

AMD phenom II X6 1055T Processor 2.80GHz
ATI Radeon HD 6800 GPU
8GB RAM
1.5TB HDD space in total
700watt power supply
Windows 7 64 bit OS
Thermaltake case

Would these things be the way to go. and what else would I need? Like I said, I'm not the brightest bulb when it comes to this, so any help would be welcome.
Thanks

Under 2500 is a piece of cake. The box above would be closer to 1000.

What do you want to spend, that will really help?

(Damn. pparks got in ahead of me.)

Intel I5-2500k CPU

Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K

third-party CPU cooler (get a better, more expensive one if you really wish to push the overclocking)

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 Continuous Direct Contact 120mm Sleeve CPU Cooler Compatible with latest Intel 2011/1366/1155 and AMD FM1/AM3+

Asus P8Z68-V LX motherboard

Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V LX LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

AMD Radeon 6850 graphics card, brand not very important

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100315L Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

8 GB (2 X 4GB) DDR3-1333 RAM

Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-1333C9D-8GAO

Good 620W PSU:

Newegg.com - SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W ATX12V V2.3 / EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

(you could go bigger on that, although you wouldn't need it as long as you didn't use more than one 300W graphics card)

The total of the above is less than $700.

Hard disk (WD Caviar Black 1TB)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533

SSD

Newegg.com - Mushkin Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR120GB 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

For the case, that's largely a matter of taste. I like the look of the Lian Li Lancool (steel) series, but I've never owned one.

All of the above should total less than $1100. If you wish to spend more, the graphics card is where to put the money. The current high-end nVidia card is the GTX 680 ($500 and up), and the current AMD champion is the Radeon HD 7970 ($540 and up).

Not all of these may be the best possible choices, but you should be able to build a system that is about as good as you can get with a single graphics card for $1500.
