Okay I was told connecting the USB 2.0 to vga cable to my monitor and laptop would be easy but it has not.
I have an LG Flatron E1942 monitor with a vga/dsub port in the back. My laptop is an xps L502X with2 USB ports and an hdmi port.
I have a USB 2.0 to vga cable from cables to go.
Issue: I installed the drivers all fine but once my computer restarted the monitor remained black OR both monitor and computer remained black OR only my background image would display on my laptop (I've rebooted countless times). When the monitor is the only one black I can still move the cursor over to it but that is all I get.
I am so frustrated. Could anyone help me please?
FYI I tried an hdmi to vga cable once and nothing worked there either.
Did you extend your desktop across to the second monitor? Press the Windows key and the P key then select Extend. Do you have a link for the USB 2 to VGA cable? It sounds like that is an external USB 2.0 video card.

OK, its letting you extend so Windows is seeing the adapter and monitor but other than that I'm not sure what's going on. Anything in device manager with a yellow ! and does that adapter show up there correctly identified?

Have you tried that adapter on another PC? Maybe its defective? Does it have its own power pack, maybe its not getting enough power from the USB port to run? That can happen on some laptops if the USB port doesn't supply the full 500ma.
