Need help: video crashes in XP Mode

I would like to run a program that uses video. It's an old program that won't run in Windows 7, but ran well in XP. I just upgraded to Windows 7, but still really need this software, so I was hoping it would run in XP Mode.

The installation went well. However, it works only up until the point when I load the video. Once I run it and then stop it, the program freezes completely.

Is there any solution for this?

This is the computer I have. The only thing different is that Windows Home version was upgraded to Business:

This is not by any means a definitive answer, but if you look at Device Manager in XP Mode you'll see that it uses a quaint little feature called Hardware Virtualization. You probably won't recognize the video driver it is using. I have had little luck with anything requiring much in the way of audio-visual support in XP Mode.

The only advice I can give might be to try a different player. Hopefully someone else will come along with a better answer.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! Well, I would use another player, but the thing is this is very specialized software, and I can't use anything else. And it's too expensive to buy the latest version, so I was hoping I could get it to work. Otherwise I guess I will have to keep my old computer around

By the way, the video does run in the Media Player in XP Mode... I don't know if that's relevant.

The only thing I can guess from the last comment is that maybe the native Windows player is designed to work (to at least some extent) with the virtual drivers and your software is not. Is there anything in that program you can use to modify the video settings?

Your system specs say you have a Windows Edition I have never heard of, Windows 7 Business, and your first post tells you have Windows 7 Home Premium.

What Windows 7 version do you have on your PC? If Home Premium or this odd "Business", XP Mode won't run properly and that might be causing your issues.

Sorry, I meant to say I started with Windows 7 Home Premium and then upgraded to Windows 7 Professional through Microsoft's website, in order to be able to run the XP Mode.

No, there are really not many options to change video settings in the program itself.
