First win 7 doesnt need defraging.

You can use treesize pro (free trial) to find where the extra space is being used and if safe delete it.

Well,it was software for I search the file and giving the information of HDD stored.
I'm looking for a software which can decrease the used space of HDD to the lowest quality.

I wanna ask,run a disk check on your hard disk. (My Computer -> right click drive -> tools -> error checking)
It able to decrease the used space?

Since when?

Windows 7 can become fragmented (and does) using a HDD just like prior Windows OS'es. Why there's still a Disk Defragmenter included in Win 7. If it didn't Microsoft wouldn't have left the default Defrag in there.

Only time you don't ever defrag is when your system is on a SSD.

@DarkSlay3r

Defrag isn't supposed to decrease space really, just consolidate the already existing files.

Might check out some of the options here if you're worried about drive space.

Probably because of shadow copies/system restore points.

You can clean up old shadow copies/restore points. All that's in that tutorial I posted for you up above. Option 2, 11, 19.

Be sure to read the tutorials and the warnings in them carefully though.

But here's the direct tutorials for that -

No. Disk check does not help you decrease or regain disk space. It is meant to repair your disk for bad sectors etc, nothing to do with disk space.
Disk defrag will not help you regain /decrease disk space either. It is meant to improve your computer performance by defragging fragmented files.....to speed things up.

Personally, I backup everything to an external hard drive, including files I created, programs I installed.
So far I used only 42 GB out of 581 GB, and that has been so for over a month.

If I deleted restore point,it will cause any negative affect to the HDD or something bad ?
I read the topic you gave,
warnsmall.png
WARNING: This will delete all restore points (system settings)
Can tell me 1 of example of system setting ?The meaning of system setting is Application or .dll

Won't hurt anything no, but you'll only have the last restore point to fall back on if you need to revert your system back in the meantime. So that's up to you or not.

Get the space back on the drive and possibly need to restore your system back to an earlier date and won't have a restore point from a month ago or so, or keep all the restore points and deal with the decrease in your hard drive space.

Once you delete the restore points, it will keep the last point, then from that time on it will start to make new restore points over time again and you'll see a decrease in drive space from it.

That's why you need to read all the warning in the tutorial before you do it.

Option three in the system protection restore points tutorial tells you that you can use CCleaner to delete individual restore points. So if you use that, you could just get rid of some of them, and keep more than one restore point if you wanted.

About system restore point, before I defragment my HDD the size was 48 now increased till 68.
If I use system restore point to restore back the previous of my HDD size, the size should be decrease as last time (48GB).
But I never do this before, can show me the step of using system restore ?
I wanna know,if I successful restore the HDD to previous time, the used space should reduced, how about some file I downloaded by now ? It still stored or gone ?

The tutorials show you the steps laid out as simple as it can get.

If you're not sure about it, I'd just use CCleaner under Option three, and delete a couple of the points and leave the rest.
