been having problems with this laptop overheating and shutting down on me.....I have laptop elevated where it's not flat on the table surface.....once it shuts down I can immediately restart with no problem.....I do get a screen message that it has shutdown for overheating but it's ok now.....What I had up on my screen is still there and I haven't lost anything.......

I have run AVG.......SuperAntiSpyware.....and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to make sure system is clean....no virus on system but did have a few spyware/malware that i got rid off along with cookies.........

Is it a fan problem? Do they need to be replaced?.......Is it a program causing the problem? How do I find out?

Hello Juliebayougal . Welcome to the SevenForums >. There can be several causes of over heating. I will start you out and then experts can take over.
First , please go to this free site and download , unzip, extract all, run as admin, then use File, save file , : Open Hardware Monitor - Core temp, fan speed and voltages in a free software gadget
Then upload the text file by using this tutorial : http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html
Post back that and we will go from there, as we need to find the cause of the overheating .
Thank you for using SevenForums

Julie can you hear any fan running when the laptop is on?

Download http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php for your bit version. Run it in Sensors only and post a snip as shown, your may look a bit different or have different values, etc..

After cleaning the vents, you might want to investigate HP Coolsense.
edit: and after you follow Britton30's request for more information.

I have a DV6 laptop and it ran hot from the day I got it. I thought Coolsense was supposed to help, and when there was an update available I applied it. For what ever reason, that update failed, so I re-installed the original version. I normally remove the OEM bloat ware but left the few (3dguard, Coolsense, Biosensor) that seemed reasonable to leave.

I eventually removed all of the HP software (including the 3dgaurd and biosensor HW drivers) and the machine ran cooler, about 10 degrees Celsius.

I've reinstalled a few times and only took off Coolsense - the machine ran cooler afterwards. That eliminated the other two drivers.

Please follow this tutorial to provide the current operating environment of your machine.
This will give members an idea of what might be eliminated to help cut down on the heat generated. I'd also like to see the BIOS version, because only HP can make any meaningful changes to the BIOS - we can't change fan speed or any other fine tune settings there.
edit: found the BIOS information in the report you posted.
Please supply the model of your DV7? There are a few on the HP site - I don't want to give you information on a wrong model.
