Hi Guys an Girls

I am running 2 x 4gb corsair vengance .(cmz8gx3m2a11600c8)
I noticed the timings 8-8-8-24 1600mhz were incorrect in cpuz so I changed them from 9-9-9-24 to the correct timings( 8-8-8-24) in BIOS. Before changing the timings my winsat mem score was about 17*** mb/s,which I thought was low which led me to check the timings. After correcting the timings it has dropped to 11063 mb/s.

My motherboard is a z77 extreme 4 if that helps.

It seems there might be something wrong here. Any Feedback appreciated

Thanks

I am running 2 x 4gb corsair vengance .(cmz8gx3m2a11600c8)

cmz8gx3m2a1600c8 should run at 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24, 1.5V, it does have XMP performance profiles.

What slots are populated? 0&2 or 1&3, try both and see if you have a difference.

populated slots are 0&2

I turned on the pc this morning and it was stuck in a loop. Mobo code 55. So I hit the clear cmos button to get back in.
Without touching anything the settings are now

XMP 1.2 Profile 1: DDR -1600 8-8-8-24 1.5v
load XMP settings:Auto
DRAM Frequency DDR3-1333 (1:5) Auto

with these settings memory performance is at 9307, much lower again

Sorry about the link. The link you provided is the correct RAM. I defaulted the bios and set the RAM to 1600mhz but I ended up back in the restart loop again with same code 55. Clearing the cmos got me back to bios where the RAM has reverted back to 1333mhz. I also tried using slots 1&3

Setting Auto doesnt seem to work so I went ahead and had a go at it.
Left xmp on Auto and changed Frequency to 1600mhz as instructed (which wouldnt let the pc restart )
20140402_185637.jpg
I noticed in the DRAM config folder the times were set to 9-9-9-24. I went ahead and made them 8-8-8-24
20140402_185619.jpg
CPUZ shows correct timings
cpuz.JPG
And a huge improvement here in winsat assessment
winsat.JPG

Do these settings look ok guys? Is the FSB: DRAM ok at 1:6?

It appears that your RAM is not on the QVL:
ASRock > Products > Z77 Extreme4 > Memory Support List

Modules should be either in A1 and B1 or A2 and B2 (yours are currently a1,b1/1,3)

Code 55 means that "memory is not installed" so if you're getting a 55 error loop with 8-8-8-8-24 timings, those timings may be too aggressive for the board which is why it's reverting to 1333mhz.

Have you updated your BIOS yet? It may add better compatibility for your modules.

You could also try upping your DRAm volts to 1.65v @ 8-8-8-24 1600mhz (it wont damage them)

:EDIT

Just saw your new post. Settings/speed look good.

Is the FSB: DRAM ok at 1:6?

Yep.

I think my bios is as it was out of the box. I dont want to mess with it until all is running well again. When I bought the ram I checked QVL , obviously I didnt look closely enough .
Do you think setting the DRam Volts will add a little more performance?

The QVL list is meaningless in reality, it's a very short list of memory that has been tested. The m2a1600c8 runs on both Intel and AMD boards from ASUS. ASRock and GA with many users OC'ing successfully. It's one of the more popular sticks with the air cool crowd because of the low profile.

When I bought the ram I checked QVL , obviously I didnt look closely enough .

As mentioned, the QVL only covers a bare fraction of tested modules so it shouldn't be taken as gospel - although every now and then some kits do need a BIOS update to work properly (originally my kit that wasn't QVL wouldn't run at it's full rated speed)

Do you think setting the DRam Volts will add a little more performance?

Only if you're trying to tighten timings further/run at a higer mhz and that's not always a guarantee. That depends on the individual modules "binning" or capability.

Since it's now running rated speeds @ 1.5v, I'd leave it as is. Upping the volts at the current timings won't improve your speed. In a rough generalization, more volts equals more stability at out of spec settings.

The latest BIOS is not always the best, it depends on the sum of the parts.
