I hope someone can help me on this multi-part related problem I am having.

A few weeks ago I did a fresh os install on a ssd and moved my old hd to be "D" for storage. pix, music, dl's etc.

I wanted to place the user folder in the "D" drive so I Made a folder in the "D" drive called for example "dobby" to place the user folders into. ( Lets say my "C" drive user name is "Harry".

I right click on the folder I wanted to move for example "my pictures"
I go to the location tab then to move,
I then find "D" drive and open the "dobby" folder, and click select folder and apply "my pictures" there, and it moves them asking if I want all to move I click yes,
Now when I go open "D" there is no "dobby" folder it is gone,
If I go to c user harry right click "my pictures" it says it's in "D:/dobby" so why doesn't "dobby" folder show in "D" drive?
However, there is a "my pictures" folder in D:/ drive with my moved pictures, what became of the "dobby" folder in D:/?

Then I made the problem way worse I really hope someone can help me with this,
I clicked start, user harry, "downloads" right clicked downloads, clicked move, and opened D:/ drive but didn't open a folder and clicked apply-
The contents of download appeared loose in D:/ as in not in a folder but now when I click user harry in that list where "downloads" was is now has "Local disk (D:) in the list and if you click it it opens the "D" drive,

How do I remove "Local disk (D:)" from that user harry personal folder list and put "downloads back there?

Many thanks!

Don`t click on my Pictures, just open my pictures, then copy and paste the pictures to the Dobby folder.

To sum up: Create your storage folder on D, then just copy and paste the pics to the folder on D

Create the User folder in the destination first, then from Location Tab select and Apply it and decline to have it move your files since there aren't any in the new install folders. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html

It would be best to shrink a partition to move those old User folders into before moving them from their Properties, so you can delete the old OS correctly by deleting its partition in Disk Mgmt. Then you can extend the new data partition into the deleted space using Disk Mgmt (if it's to the right) or Partition Wizard if its to the left.

How to extend partition easily with partition magic ? Partition Wizard video help.

Gregrocker, thanks,

As far as the slave "D" drive it was wiped correctly, and I didn't want a partition for the user folders because I didn't know how much space I would use on them apposed to old storage,

I believe I understand what you are saying on moving user folders but let me ask like this,

Can I have "D" then a folder lets call it "Dobby" then inside "Dobby" folder have for example "downloads" "my pictures" "My music" "documents" and so on?

Then when I move it to that new location wouldn't I want to click move all files since in my case while it is a new os install I didn't jump on the folder move and for example the "my pictures" and "downloads" folders did have files in them which I would want moved too.

Now my big issue is all the putzing around I did last night I no longer have "my pictures" in the user folder list,
If I click user name "harry" "my pictures" isn't in that list,
However, it is still on the "D" drive with the pictures still in it, in fact there are 2 "my pictures" folders in "D" one empty one with my pictures.
How do I get the one with pictures to show up in the user folder list?

Thanks!

I would not put the User folders in another Folder unless its OneDrive to sync them to the cloud. There's just no reason to do so.

Yes, copy all files if they're still in the source folder.

Only one of those Pictures folders should be the shell User folder as signified by the picture icon on it. You can rightclick it to look at location to be sure. Then you can delete the other.

If no default Pictures folder can be found then you may need http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18583-user-folders-restore-default-location.html. This happened to me a few times before I got the hang of moving them.

Just cut folders Downloads, SavedGames, Contacts, Searches, Desktop, Favorites, Music, Pictures, Videos, Links and Documents or only the folders you want to move from your userprofile. (C:\users\yourname folder)

Now paste the stuff in D:\your_desired_folder

Quite easy. So cut and paste!! NOT copy paste and delete afterwards!!
