I need your help, please.

I currently have Vista on a recently purchased desktop computer at home running 64 bit -- whatever that means. Not too long after getting the computer I set-up some strict parental controls on the system -- I have two teenage boys. Of course, to do that I needed to set a password on the system. Well, long story short, I forgot the password which has now wrecked havoc on us since my wife and I cannot access many harmless websites -- stupid Vista, stupid me. I've done all the work-arounds and suggestions that every Vista expert has told me to do to fix the problems and it still doesn't work. I've spent a lot of time on the internet (on my laptop) seeking help with no resolve. Now, everyone is telling me I need to reinstall Vista to fix it and have been meaning to do that until I heard all the good things about Windows 7.

My question is, if I install the Windows 7 up-grade (after backing up everything I can) on this computer, will the system still be password protected to the hilt or will the the up-grade remove the password protection set-up?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Additional question: If I wipe the computer by deleting Vista and purchase the Windows 7 upgrade, will the computer accept the upgrade and install it, or will it balk and tell me that I need the full version of Windows 7?

Thanks for the link.

Right now I'd like to get 7 on this computer since I really did not like Vista. Will the 7 upgrade resolve my password problems, or not?

You will need ( and should imo ) to do a customized clean install... this will resolve your problem..

Can I do that with the purchase of the 7 upgrade software or do I need to get the full version? If I can do it with just the upgrade, do I need to completely delete Vista first or does the 7 upgrade automatically remove Vista for me then places 7 on the computer?

I would do a complete back up of data first then plan on reinstalling programs after 7 is on my computer.

Thanks.

One concern I have is that Vista, and the stupid parental controls that I set-up, will not allow me to install the 7 upgrade without the password I forgot. I'm concerned it will ask for the password to install 7. I believe we get this message when we try to install new software on this computer.
