need some help thinking about reformatting

I want to wipe my pc clean and start over only problem is I have no idea how to reformat a pc since ive never done it before. Also my system came preloaded with vista not 7 so I only have the upgrade disk is it possible to reformat everything clean and install 7 with my upgrade disk?

Yes it is possible. As long as you have your Vista disk as well. You just need to put in the Windows 7 disk and restart your computer. If it's set to boot from the ROM drive first, it should ask you to any key to boot from the disk.

At some point during the installation, it should ask you to put in your Vista disk to verify that you did in fact own a previous copy of Windows.

If neither of the above takes place, come back here and I'm sure one of us here will be happy to point you in the right direction

Windows installers haven't asked for qualifying disk to be inserted since XP.

Boot the Win7 Upgrade DVD, select Custom install, use Drive tools to delete all, create new partition(s) as desired, format before installing Win7 to first partition.

DVD will scan HD upon boot to see Vista and allow Upgrade version key.

After set up and running as you like, save a Win7 backup image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage HD (or a replacement) using DVD or Repair CD in 15 minutes.

Thanks for pointing this out There was a reason why I had mentioned it, for the life of me I can't remember why.
