Need to access 'My Documents' folder after laptop failure

My laptop has stopped working, so I am using its Sata hard-drive as an external drive on my PC in order to make sure all my files are backed up. I can copy my photos across but it says I don't have permission to access my documents, even though I use the same name and password on both my laptop and my PC.
Does anyone know a way of accessing these files?
