Need to create bootmgr etc. on new disk

I had built a new system, and installed Win7 x64 from DVD on a virgin 1TB drive.
It created a reserved partition, and a system one. I took the back part for a data partition.

This ran fine for a while, but I had data corruption, and decided to build a new disk.
Partitioned it similarly, and reinstalled Win7 to the new disk. And then copied the data.
All the time I kept the wounded disk in the system.
It however did not populate the first partition on the new disk, but continued to boot from the first.

I finally decided to remove the old disk, and now I cannot boot.
I've tried several rounds of marking the first partition active, and trying several bootrec or rebuildbcd
command from within the Win7 install disk, but the active setting doesn't seem to stick and most commands fail. The repair scan does not seem to find the Windows partition anymore. No matter how many times I run it.

I need some help to figure what to do next:
- I can still put the old disk back in, and I guess set the old boot partition active, long enough to copy whatever I need out. I want to remove it.
- It's possible that part 0 on my new disk is somehow the wrong type. I'm considering deleting the partition and redoing it "properly", whatever that may be, to make it bootable.

Suggestions?? Thanks.

Your mistake was having the old disk in the PC when you installed Windows on the new disk.

You need to get your boot files onto the new disk. I'd guess there is more than one way to do that, but the most often used method here is to use EasyBCD. Search the tutorials for it.

Or you could just start over and do another clean install, with ONLY one drive connected. That might be easier, depending on how much customization you've done on the current install.

I haven't figured out a way to get EasyBCD files into the Win7 Install repair environment.
My USB sticks don't seem to mount, this is show up on the removable media in the system.
maybe on the second cd drive....(idea) it doesn't have to boot. <off to try this>

I did get a limited success with Bcdboot copying BCD files to /Boot on the new reserved partition.
But they are still not recognized.
