Hi
I purchased a Lenovo laptop which came up with 64 bit Windows 7 Home premium OS.. After a month or so, the harddisk got corrupted. We gave it to the lenove center for repair..After changing the harddisk, they installed Windows7 Home Premium 32 bit..

In 64 bit OS, I had created recovery disks..

Can i use the recovery disks of 64 bit to reinstall Windows 7 64 bit on a 32 bit OS? I tried doing so, but i was getting error saying No related files were found..

I have the productid and cd key of 64 bit Window 7 OS. I had purchased this CD and have also installed Mcafee antivirus installed on this system.

Please let me know what can be done on this...

Thanks and regards
Kavitha

You should be able to boot from the recovery disk no. 1 and restore the default factory install. You cant do it from inside windows. Try doing that and let us know.

As you made your x64 Recovery disks from a corrupted HD, it would be worth making the x86 Recovery disks from the new HD first.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for your reply.. Could you please tell me to how to do it from the windows after inserting recovery 1 disk, like which file to select for booting...

I had taken the recovery disk, immediately after purchasing the laptop, so it is not from corrupted HD.

Just insert the recovery disk (if you have multiple disks, you need to use disk no. 1) into the tray/slot and reboot the computer. The dvd drive must be the first boot device- you can either change the boot priority in the bios (to get into the bios, you need to repeatedly tap a particular function key. This key varies among brands. When you boot the computer watch the screen for instructions in the lower left part of the screen, it would say press ...... key to enter setup, thats the one you want) or when you reboot, hit F12- that'll bring up the boot menu, select dvd drive there. After that just follow the onscreen prompts.

Edit: For lenovo computers I think F1 is the key to enter the bios at boot.

Hello kavitha, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's some interesting info you may find useful, and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media; if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

After you have made backups of everything you care to save, the best method is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old drivers/programs, giving you the best possible space to install Windows to.

You do not need to use another retail Product Key you purchased to reinstall 64 bit Win7 on your Lenovo. Use the Product Key on COA sticker on machine which can be used for either 32 bit or 64 bit.

If you don't want the pre-installed bloatware or useless Lenovo utilities which have better versions built into Win7, you can use a Win7 retail installer to clean reinstall your licensed version. Is the install DVD you have the same version?
