Need to upgrade to 64bit, stay with 7 or go for 8?

Thread title says it all, I need to upgrade to a 64bit OS. Should I get stay with windows 7 and get the 64 bit version of should I upgrade to windows 8?

Welcome to the Seven Forums

If you already have a valid Windows 7 Key you can very easily go from 32 bit to 64-bit.
Using the tutorial below you can download whatever version of Windows your key is for in 64-bit and burn the .iso to a DVD.

I have both installed (dual boot). But, Win 7 is what I mostly use.

Here's a thought;
Download and install the Windows 8.1 preview. Love it or hate it, you'll at least have first hand experience with it. You can always slick it and put 7x64 on if you don't like 8.

Personally I like 8 and look forward to the day when we use it here at work officially. Right now it's just a geek thing for my colleague and me, with the rest of IT shunning it for some reason.

8 is "tuna fish" though. You either love it or hate it.

There's really nothing wrong with Win 8, it's actually a pretty decent OS as long as you don't use any Metro apps. I run both Win 7 & Win 8 and both work fine for me.

Metro apps are what people really don't like about Win 8 (that and the fact that they can't adjust to not having a Start button). Metro apps run full screen and are very shallow in their capabilities. I removed all the Metro apps from my Win 8 machine and just run the same apps there that I run on my Win 7 machine.

Personally, I would go with Win 8 but since you already have a license for Win 7, it makes sense for you to go with that since it won't cost you anything. Win 8 is perfectly usable but, IMO, there isn't enough pluses there to warrant spending money to move to it.
