.NET Framework Initialization Error

I want to begin by saying how stupid i am.
My computer was starting to get slow, and i did a power clean in it.
The thing is, i think i cleaned way too much.

Now some links are not working, for instance if i press properties in Computer, in start, it won't do anything. But if i search for system, it will open the same window.

Also, advanced system care is all crazy. The links there also won't work.
I have attached an image as an example. Aside from that, when i start it an error screen shows up, and asks if i want to continue, restart or abort.

I thought those were all DirectX problems, because i uninstalled it and i was going to install a new one. When i finished downloading the SDK, however, an error screen telling me to:
"Set the registry key HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETFramework/installroot to the .NET install location "

Also, if i press next, another error screen shows up saying errors were encountered during the installation of .NET Framework 2.0 . Error Code: S1023

First, i re-installed .NET Framework, nothing was fixed, and then i double checked the install root thingy, and everything was okay.


Also, i don't have any system restores or any kind of thing to recover from. Its really driving me crazy, i didn't even get to update the drivers.

Did not work. Also, now i can't open WMP, because it says server execution failed.

You may end up having to do a complete clean re-install. Question; is the hard drive making in weird noises. If so it could be going bad or some bad sectors on the disk.

Oh hell, i hate formatting. I used to love it, because my PC never had a lot of things in it, and my PC always got faster. Oh well.

Managed to fix media player through iobit's win fix

Yeah baby yeah!
I fixed all of the problems!
All i had to do was:

-Run sfc /scannow
-Disable all Windows Features, except for Media Player and Search.
-Re-Register all the DLL's following this tutorial: Re-register all DLL files in windows system directory

YEAH!

You might see if using the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool may be able to clean it up and get rid of the error for you.

I don't know how to use that, because if .net Framework comes with windows 7, how am i supposed to uninstall it? and install it again?

You would just need to download the second "Download Location" item at the link above, extract the EXE file from the ZIP, and run the EXE file to run it.

Afterwards you can download and install .NET Framework 4.0 at the link below.

Do i have to turn any feature off or on?

Nope. Running the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool should take care of it automatically when it uninstalls it for you.

It didn't work, so i tried a second time, i first ran Cleanup Tool, then i manually deleted some main framework folders and registry hive. It also didn't work.

Other than a clean reinstall, I do not know of one.

You might wait to see if someone else may know of a way though.

AlexRD, at this point a Repair Install might actually be the best choice for you. Who knows what other features are broken, and will crop up later. This is why everyone advises against the cleaner programs. I'm not trying to chastise you over that, but for anyone reading, lesson learned. A repair install is actually quite painless. I just did one last weekend to fix a System restore issue. I was chasing on fix after the other until I reached a point where it became evident that if so many fixes were needed, there is quite some problem involved (sound familiar?). Other that repatching my system for 3rd party themes, and re doing the appearance resource changes I had made, it was a breeze.

Ok, i am going to do a clean install.
But first, i'm going to ask a few questions

Are registry cleaners really bad? I don't think its the culprit in this thread, but due to the fact that i uninstalled many things without thinking. Also, i do notice a performance improvement when i clean the registry.

Second, about visual c++, do i need to install all versions, like 2005 + 2008 + 2010 or just install the latest version?

Third, is there any new program/driver that you guys recommend since i'm going to do a clean install?

Some Registry cleaners can be really bad on your system if you do not know what to look for and just let them delete stuff without double checking the results first. CCleaner has a registry cleaning feature that is usually safe though.

I have never used that program, but usually you would only need to install the latest version pnly if you wanted to.

Just all of the latest drivers for all of your devices and motherboard.

Alex, you really don't need visual c++ unless a program that you install asks for it. At that point it will usually want to install it. Until then, it isn't required. A Guy
