Solved Network adaptor failing to connect/match requirements of wireless net

I just moved from California to Tennessee. In california my computer had a LAN connection to the router ( Netgear N600 WNDR3400). Here that isn't an option (the router is in a different room and set up with a different computer).

So, when I turned on my pc and tried to connect to the wireless network i received notice that it had a red x next to my network's name and said "The capability of your network adapter does not match the requirements of this network." At first I thought maybe this had to do with the security but my network has WPA2-PSK which is, oddly enough, the same encryption that another network I can detect has. My network, it claims, has no signal while the other one I can detect has a very slight one.
First thing I tried was resetting the router. That didn't work. Then I looked at other comps in the house.
The signals I was receiving contradict the mac laptop (i know, sling all the hate on it that you want, it is a useful cross-check right now though) which gets a strong signal from my network right next to my pc while getting a very weak/no signal from the other network that my PC is detecting. Odd. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for my network adapter (Belkin Wireless Pre-N Notebook Network Card).

Anyway, I don't know a lot about computers (and even less about wireless network setup) so any help would be fantastic. It is an odd problem I think though maybe someone has seen it before?

Pc: Dell Inspiron 531
2GB of ram
windows 7 ultimate 32 bit

Please ask for any other needed information. Thank you for your help guys.

Do you have the latest driver for your Wi-Fi Adapter? If not, download and update the driver from the Manufacturer's site.

Also, try changing the Wireless Mode, if it's on Mixed Mode, change it to N, save the setting and test the connection.

If that didnt' work, update the router's firmware to the latest.

I have the latest driver for the adapter and got the latest firmware for the router. Still no luck.
How would I change the wireless mode though? I assumed it would be device manager > network adapters > properties > advanced or some such, but I can't seem to find the option for it anywhere.
Hm, I probably misunderstood something at some step, my bad.

So I tried changing it to N (and also tried b/g because I figured I might as well) with no luck. It still claims there's no signal and that it is because the capability of the network adapter doesn't match the network's requirements.

Thanks for all of your help 2xg... any more ideas possibilities?

Next task to do is changing the network security from the router then apply the same setting to your computer.

If you're on WPA try WPA2 or vice versa.

Post another update pls.

Changing the security worked. It only supports WPA-Psk and not WPA2-PSk.
Either way, it works now, thanks 2xg, you were a great help.
