Can you pls detail what is in Device Manager, under Network Adapters?

While you at it check windows Logs, in Event Viewer for any errors that you can see that relates to this adapter.

are all device manager entry's ok all drivers installed all the way down click on show hidden devices

bleutooth device (Personal Area Network)
bleutooth device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)
VIA Rhine II compatible fast ethernet adapter

there are no errors related to the adapter in eventviewer

That motherboard has built in LAN port do you have a PCI LAN card anywhere you can install and try

you may want to consider a bios update for that board

all (also the hidden ones) drivers are installed correctly (well except for my audio driver, but that is off later concern)

i don't have any spare PCI LAN cards to install on my computer

could a bios update help with the internet connection (because it will be a lot of trouble since i cannot reach internet, and we don't have burners on the other computers)

yes it's very possible that a bios update could cure the problem however it would be easier to try another adapter if you had one for a quick test

This is ultra weird, it doesnt seem like you have tcp/ipv4 enabled on this NIC. And you are absolutely sured that you have update the drivers from here

i've been reading on other sites (before posting here) and there somethimes the problem is IPv6, and IPv6 is not supported by our ISP yet (they're slow, they're working on it)

yes i have, didn't make any difference

to answer AEM's question, no i have not. i couldn't find my product over there (neither could i find any windows 7 compatible driver update). i've been looking over the iternet to find the latest driver for it, and concluded i already had the last one (it was no download site, couldn't find any download)

Pls try and obtain suitable driver from that site and install it. Vista drivers can work so don't exclude them.

it didn't work, i'll think i'll change the os back to XP and try windows 7 later on (with a new card, or a new computer)

well, it was not windows 7 that caused the trouble, Windows XP seems to have the same problem.
i'm guessing a dead NIC (altough it is very suspicious it went dead after a OS installation:sarc

Check Bios Clear CMOS

Have you checked all your bios settings like making sure LAN boot ROM is turned off maybe just clear your CMOS and load factory defaults and see what happens.

This whole thing has just seemed not right to me something is being overlooked in my opinion.

Are you sure that the "other" computers are not using static IP addresses if they were it would explain a lot, I say this because it was working fine until you loaded 7 and now you can't get it to work in XP again, if your network was set up to use static IP's no matter what OS you put on there it's not going to work without having an IP set up in the IP range of the network.

I am sure all the other computers use a dynamic IP address
After some reading and tweaking to my computer i was able to get internet directly trough the modem, i am still not able to internet using the router
the NIC is an integrated VIA Vt8237r
