The Network Drive volumes do not show up in Windows Explorer using Windows 7. The network drives appear with the assigned drive letter followed by Network Drive, for example, (Q:) Network Drive
I've checked and the volumes are labeled correctly on the servers. Is there a registry entry that needs to be modified in order to correct?

The system is a Toshiba R830 laptop running Win 7 64-bit

Hello,

Can you confirm what you mean. Do you mean that you cant see the Volume Size of the network drive?

We just the the assigned drive letter followed by network drive, for example (Q:) Network Drive. We would normally see the following

(Q:) Server name\volume name

Hello,

I wouldnt worry about it not showing the path providnig the drive works.

If you ever needed to know what drives where mapped on the machine you could just use the 'net use' command in CMD.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the information, but this user is making is making a big about the names not showing up in Explorer. Is there a registry entry that can be modified/added to show the volume names?

Ah ok,

Do you have to use a mapped drive? You could try adding a network location instead which will show the full path.

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Right-click on the Computer entry in the left pane and select “Add a network location”. Click next.
  3. Select the “Choose a custom network location” option (it was the only one presented to me) and click Next.
  4. Type in the UNC path desired and click Next twice.

It maybe worth pointing out to the user that mapped drives are used so that you dont have to memorise the sometimes long UNC paths. There is no advantage to them knowing.

Another option would be to rename the mapped drive with the full path... This should work providing that the mapped drive isnt being applied through a GPO from the Server.
