Solved Network Icon Issue

Good morning-
Today, we woke up to an issue with the Network Icon in the Notification Area. There is a red 'X' displayed on the icon. No changes have been made to the machine. I read and applied the info in the Icon Cache Rebuild tutorial and that didn't help.



Any and all help would be greatly appreciated on this matter.

lost connection

It means you've lost your internet,(not connected to your router).

RIGHT click on the icon, select troubleshoot, will provide some answers, also check action centre for anything, left click on flag.

Roy- I am connected, and all is well with the connection. The icon just showed up with a red 'X' in it. Of further note, and time related, System Restore will not restore back to a specific restore point (0xc0000022).
These are the 2 things that I woke up to this morning when I started the pc. I'll try and reboot the Netgear now. I have tried every known fix and hack to resolve this, to no avail.

WHEW!... after much experimenting, it appears to be solved. Here's what we discovered and implemented-

1) Rt. clicked icon in Notification Area> Open Network and Sharing Center> Change Adapter Settings.

2) There were 2 items- 'Incoming Connections' and 'Local Area Connection'.

3) We deleted the 'Incoming Connections', DISABLED the 'Local Area Connection'
(Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller), and then ENABLED it.

RESULTS- The red 'X' is gone from the connection icon in the Notification Area.

u did my bad. have any luck with other issue you messaged me about?

If issues keep cropping up you might want to try repair install, keeps all your programs, files, documents, etc., just replaces windows!

LOL!...Bill, 'tis possible our comments simply crossed in the vast either!

Don't know why, but I went back and reset to a prior restore point, and it WORKED!... I'm finding the last build of Windows 7 is even MORE buggy than XP Pro SP3 was!...Go figure!

I'll PM you with a GREAT story along the same vein regarding HP Diagnostics (F2)

I've found windows vista and 7 system restore unreliable and do disk image with AOMEI backupper standard.
Many times with win7 system restore, disabling anti-virus, or, which works more often, boot into safe mode works. I've noticed that sometimes the system restore actually works but indicates otherwise. Why? Microsoft. LOL You take care!

Right along with 'sfc /scannow'!!!... Agreed, on the other comment- thinkin' Safe Mode's the way to do it.
