New build BSOD 0x0000124 Blue screen crash - DM log uploaded!

OK, let me ask some questions
1. When you installed windows did it run OK as soon as it installed?
2. Did you run all the Windows Updates?
When you started installing programs, at what point did it start to BSOD? What programs had you just installed before the BSODs started?

Also, was the XP disk connected when you installed? and would you disconnect the XP disk and start up and see if it makes any difference. You can just disconnect 1 of the cables going to it.

the only problem I had with the installation was that I originally used a 7 home disc with a 7 Professional code. I realised my error re-installed using the correct dvd - only problem was that it wouldnt format a 100mb partition on the drive from that original installation , but otherwise installed fine with no issues. It came with SP1 and it did a lot of updates - I must admit i just ran the ones it came up with

It was running fine for a few days and I was gradually installing main programmes and copying files across from my older XP hard drive. Can't really point to anything really other than probably when I installed the 450. There was no immediate problem but i'm sure that was when the screen stayed off at one point when it came out of hibernation, so i toggled a bit between on board and the 450 trying to get the best results and it booted normally. Probably the main programmes I'd installed prior to this was Lightroom 5 (one of the main reasons I wanted to upgrade to 7)

There's also not enough connections on the current psu to run the card and more than one hard drive, which was a pain as I wanted to copy stuff across - another reason that I toggled between on-board and the card, but probably used on board more

THE current PSU is 300w and is a HEC 300vp-2re ATX. Was in a MESH pc that I bought for my son. I have an Alpine 600w on order, which I hoped would be ok!

OK, your 450 idles pulling 106 Watts, At full draw, depending on the version of the card can pull between 275 -315 Watts. Also, Are any of the programs you installed XP versions? Have you tried to run in Safe Mode?

Hi - at the moment it's also crashing in Safe Mode (seems to make no difference!) and even during the repair options when running the installation DVD!

I don't think I've installed any XP software, other than some smaller things like imageburn and Free Download Manager but I've always gone for 7 versions and they all were working fine. Lightroom 5 will only run on 64bit windows 7 so it's not that.

I'm amazed the 450 ran at all given those figures! It was seemed quite happy running through XP ( i used it all the way through before the new install and drive), but I'm not using it for any gaming. The most intensive stuff I do is processing photos in Lightroom

Just wanted to say thanks again for all your time on this - It's doing my head in as I seem to be right back to square one!!

OK, when are you supposed to be getting the new PSU? Maybe tonight..

Please Run Memtest86+
picture.php

   Information
Please download from this site http://www.memtest.org/ in the middle of the page are the Download links, you can download the ISO.zip or the Auto USB Flash Drive installer.zip

Extract the Zip file. If you chose the ISO image, burn it to a CD using Windows Disk Image Burner or any Image burner you mat have. If you downloaded the Auto USB installer, extract it, insert your USB 2.0 Flash Drive and take note of the drive letter. Run the installer, select the Flash Drive Letter, check the format box and press next. It will install memtest86+ to a flash drive. You can use either V4.20 or V5.01. Boot from your selected media. If you use V5.01 it will tell you to press certain buttons at the start, please press no buttons. The test will begin on it's own and continue to run until you stop it. It needs to run for 8 complete passes or until you receive an error. If you receive an error, stop the test. Even 1 error is a fail. Each pass tests a different part of the ram and each of the 10 tests in each pass tests something different. It takes a minimum of 8 passes to completely test the ram, more passes are better. It is quite a long test and will take several hours depending on how much ram you have. Due to the time length it is best to run overnight. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

I want to make sure you are not having memory problems. It should not be crashing in Safe mode. Safe mode only loads enough drivers for Windows to run. Basically it loads no 3rd party drivers, only Windows drivers which will not crash unless you have corrupted system files or hardware problems. Without the 450 installed, I doubt you are pulling 125 W from your PSU. You have run tests on your hard drive and passed, That only leaves the ram or Motherboard unless the software was right about your PSU, which I doubt.

Have you ordered the PSU yet?

OK, great. I suspect the memtest86+ (please download from the link I gave) will take 8-10 hours to run 8 complete passes.

Yep it's taken about an hour to do it's first pass - no errors, so I'll let it run during the night and catch the results in the morning. PSU should also be here by the afternoon!

I know how aggravating it can be, I've been there more times than I'd care to admit. Just look on the brighter side. At least you don't have 16 GB like me.

Yes that's very true!! Currently nearing the end of pass 7 with no errors reported yet! It's recording the CPU temp as very high - 102, but I'm assuming that's possibly not too accurate. I've got the side casing off so plenty of air getting in there

Hello from me! I have exactly also the same problem with my HP Pavillion dv6 - Windows 7 64bit.
I am attaching also the dump files to check somebody and tell me what to do.

I hope somebody could help me...
Thanks in advance!

nikpony, you would be much better off if you started your own thread. You will get better service and it will be less confusing than dealing with several people in the same thread. Just go to BSOD Help and Support - Windows 7 Help Forums , click the orange button that says 'New Thread' give it a title that identifies your problem, and as much information as you can in the body of the message, attach the DM log to the message. Thanks, and you will get much better service.

Stop the test! That's entirely too hot

Just seen this!! I've stopped the test - it had done 8 passes with no errors, so at the least the ram is good! Why do you think the CPU was so hot and should I continue to install the new PSU?

EDIT - just checked the BIOS CPU temp at it says its 50

cheers

Paul

Yes, install the new PSU if you are sure you know how. I am assuming you do. I would, at a minimum, clean off the old thermal paste from the CPU and cooler and apply new paste. Preferably, a new CPU cooler. It does not need to be expensive. Any one will do.
