Well i just recently built a new computer, i have replaced the MOBO and still have this problem.

I keep randomly freezing. it could take 4 mins, it could take 6 HRS, i can run games fine and is triggered when i do absolutely nothing to trigger it. No BSOD, no errors in event viewer pre-crash. Ran memtest on my sticks, it came back no errors on 6 passes each stick.

It works fine in safe mode and in BIOS, no freezes there.

My event viewer gives me this error every 5 minutes:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor ID: 4

ID 4 and ID 5 happen at the same time. ID 2 is rare.

I am NOT over clocked.

Could this be a hardware issue?

my voltage is

5.0 - 5v, 12.149 - v12, and 3.336 - 3.3v

CPU Temps 34-42

MB temp 34-37

I have tried 2 different windows CDs.

Could it be a PSU problem?

What puzzles me is if it is hardware why can i run safe mode with no freezes.

almost looks like one of your cores is dying or isnt able to keep up

Might be a bad chip

Also look into Bios to see what is going on with the cpu if certain states are turned on like turbo core etc

Did you build this yourself or someone else maybe even retailer?

it is a build i made my self. everything is still under warranty. i have disabled C&Q and Other power saving functions and i seem to be doing ok. but it could just be under a slow lock up spell right now. im still getting th errors.

I have attached the logs. it seems the errors are happening less frequently. Perhaps a cpu or a PSU problem?

Hiren's boot CD includes prime95 and some other tests that you can run in an XP environment instead of Windows 7 if Windows 7 will not run stable.

Ultimate Boot CD has some good diagnostic utilities, as well, and many of them run in a Linux or DOS environment.

Video Memory Stress Test can test your video memory. It is also part of Hiren's Boot CD.

I know this is a really old thread but was wondering if OP ever figured out the problem.

I got this same error while playing Star Wars The Old Republic. Really hoping is is a small overheating issue that some new paste and heatsink cleaning will fix. My 6-core AMD is under 2 years old
