Solved new build - no power to CPU i5 3450

Hello,

Just in the process of building a gaming rig but having problems getting the computer to power up.

Details
mobo - gigabyte Z77-D3H
Processor - i5 3450
Memory - Kingston hyper x DDR3 1600mhz CL9
PSU - powercool x-viper 450W and generic 650w
case - Zalman Z5
Hard drive - Kingston hyper x 3k SSD 120gb

Info
- Tested powercool PSU using antec PSU tester - pass
- Changed over to generic 650w PSU with no power on button. plugged in and hit case power on button to make sure that i had all the connectors in correctly. PSU fans powered up but still nothing through the CPU, no fan, no post.
- removed motherboard from case (possible shorting issues??) again PSU powers up but nothing from the CPU or fan and no posting bleeps?
- added post test card but returns 00 no errors.

Check the 24 pin power connector to make sure its being fully inserted. Same way with CPU Power (8 pin).

You can get a false positive with a PSU tester as it does not test the power supply under load. You could have the correct voltages with no load but under load one or more voltages could fail.

Was the clear cmos jumper pin ever moved ? If it`s not in the right position the motherboard won`t run.

Are you sure the front panels connectors are on the proper connectors on the motherboard ?

changed over mobos to a gigabyte z68ap-d3

powered up straight away.

conclusion - faulty motherboard.

Ya, that sux when you know you`ve hooked up everything correctly and you hit the power button and nothing happens.

clear CMOS checked and not set to short.
