"New Folder" button in Windows 7 Pro (64) won't create a new folder??!

Hi good people!

Sporadically, but more often times than no, the "New Folder" button along the top of a Windows Explorer window in Windows 7 Pro 64, will NOT create a new folder!

I click on it til I'm blue in the face.... and nothing!

I can right click and create a new folder in the same window with the right mouse button flyout... but I want to make a new folder by simply clicking on the "New Folder" button at the top of the window.

Can you please help me figure out why this function is not [usually] working??

Thanks a ton! :geek:

I have placed an image in this thread so you can see where/what I'm talking about.

Hello Toddsta,

Is there specific locations (root directories, user folders, system folders, etc...) where it's not working at, or is just random?

For now, you might see if downloading and merging the folder option in the tutorial below may be able to help after a restart. It will restore all default associations for folders including "New Folder".

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

It seems to be fairly widespread. Is this something that has been somewhat of a 'problem area' with Windows 7??

I also have the SAME problem with the 'Burn Button' when I want to burn a disk..... I click on the button and nothing happens, yet I can 'right/click' and then select the 'burn' option from the flyout and it works that way....

I'll give the link a try and report back.

Thanks!

Todd

Thanks Dwarf - got it. Should I set my other two internal hard-drives so that they can have a restore point too? Or should I just be doing this with my C / boot drive? Thanks.

Whilst it is possible to include other drives, it is generally recommended that System Restore is used on your OS drive only.

You should run (Command prompt with Admin priviliges)
run chkdsk x:(Put your own designator in there - C?) /f - as Administrator (from an Elevated command prompt). It will take a while, but I think will solve your problem with new folders.
Like chkdsk c: /f
