I have a Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102 Laptop running an Intel i7 processor and 4GB memory. The original HD stopped booting and I have two New in Box Hard Drives I will install in this laptop.

I intend to make a SanDisk SSD Plus 120GB as the boot drive with only Windows 7 installed on it.

The second internal will be a WD Absolutely internal 1TB Hard Drive. (The Laptop has two internal HD slots.) The system I will install is Windows 7 Ultimate which I have on a CD.

Having never done this before I thought I’d ask you experts precisely how to accomplish this task without shooting myself in the foot.

For those kind enough to reply and assist let me say, "Thanks!"

Hello FirstShirt, :)

If you have your Windows 7 product key, then you could use the method in the tutorial below to do a clean install of Windows 7 to the SSD.

Clean Install Windows 7

On BIOS, you must set Secure boot to disable and set CSM to enabled.

As you have one small SSD and a big HDD, use Kari tutorial to install the OS and programs on the SSD and move \Users to the HDD. User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation

I have a 128G SSD with Win7 and Linux and moved \Users to the HDD.

Below are the files you need to move \Users to D:
w7hp.xml - Edit to match your needs (follow Kari tutorial)
sysprep.cmd.txt - Edit to match your needs (follow Kari tutorial) and then rename to sysprep.cmd

I presume I can reinstall all my software to the 2nd drive (1TB) while keeping only the Win 7 operating files, updates, etc on the SSD. My intent is to segregate the operating files of Win 7 to the SSD and everything else defaulted to the 1TB Drive.

I would post a pix of the other computer's screen (the laptop I'm installing to) but for some reason I can't load a screenshot or any other photo file on this Forum. And yes, I have been schooled over and over by responders as to how it is done. But for some reason when I scroll the mouse over the paperclip icon and press the left mouse button, nothing happens. No box opens, no dropdown menu. That goes for the "Manage Attachements" too.

Anyway, when asked where I want to install Windows there is a list of 5 Disk 0 Partition selections. 1 is OEM (Reserved), 2 is System, 3 is MSR (Reserved), 4 is Dynamic, 5 is Unallocated Space.

Unallocated Space is the logical selection, but when I highlight it as the selection then press "Next" nothing happens.

Yes, the "other" HD was in the laptop. I took it out and the screen no longer mentions the drive. Why the SSD has partitions must be due to the Windows Setup installation. It now only illustrates 4 on the list now. However, I still can not advance beyond this screen.

Isn't it great how easy it is to work with Microsoft products?

P.S., I have been schooled on how to post graphics on this Forum, many, many times. I have been provided link after link to Tutorials on how to do it. It does not function for me.

I would think twice maybe thrice before splitting Windows OS prime, 3rd party installs going to an "other than the OS partition", and user folders going elsewhere. Major OS rebuilds, major OS upgrades may reset everything back to default locations - meaning doing lots of configurations again; many 3rd party installs and their resultant day-to-day operations may not go as smoothly as desired if "hard-wired" to go to C:\Programs...but residing on D:\Programs...; making parallel full images of numerous partitions that have to be restored [if/when restore operations are called for] all together.

I suppose it would be a never-ending requirement to modify all "default" instalation directories. Is that your point? If so, what is the benefit of these small interanl HD's designed for the operating system, other than to sell them?

You press the key before the boot process, not during.

You do not even need a hard drive installed to access the Bios, you are not hitting the key soon enough, start tapping it as soon as you turn on the PC.

It shows you right on the screen which key to push to enter setup, F2, F10, Del etc. all computers are different.

I suppose it would be a never-ending requirement to modify all "default" installation directories. Is that your point? If so, what is the benefit of these small internal HD's designed for the operating system, other than to sell them?
I have not purchased an SSD HD, so I have no idea what the advantages are. For me, an SSD must be at least 500GB-1TB in size, to fit all of Windows, 3rd party programs, and the User AppData stuff. Going back to my modifying default point: whatever stick is picked up an end-user, the other end of the stick is picked up also, i.e., choices and consequences [short-term and long-term, intended and unintended] are picked up together.

I disabled "Fast" boot speed (now normal). "Secure Boot" seems not to be an option I can find. Under the "Advanced" tab System Configuration the Boot Mode was in the CSM Boot position.

Under the "Advanced" tab in BIOS the selections are;

*Boot Speed
*Execute-Disable Bit Capability
*Virtualization Technology
*Intel (R) AT
Intel (R) AT Suspend
*Beep Sound
*Sleep and Charge
*USB Power in Sleep Mode
*Sleep and Music
*USB Legacy Emulation
*System Configuration

The Install Windows screen within the windows install program still will not allow me to select the partition where to install Windows and proceed via clicking "Next."

No. Delete ALL Partitions sounded a bit final to me.

Just burn the Windows 7 ISO to a usb, go into BIOS and make sure Secure Boot is off and that boot mode is legacy, then enable boot menu and then select the usb from the boot menu on startup, and then the Windows 7 installation should start.
