Hi guys,

I bought a new hard rive at frys.(western digital 500gb) It is faster then my old samsung 500gb. I want to just copy all the data to the new one and take the old one out. But i guess it is not as easy. I did some crazy stuff and now my old system is pretty mest up. I am trying to repair it and i am in good shape.
My question for u is: Is there a programm i can use to totally copy every thing on my new hard drive so i can plug it in and it will just boot up??? (after i repaired my system)

I will really thank u for ur help!!!

Hello seife96, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The Western Digital web site will offer you a copy of its disk imaging software that will copy the contents of your old hard drive to the new WD hard drive so you can use it.

Windows Seven also has its own image / backup utility that will allow you to copy everything from the old hard drive to the new one.

Also available is third party software, some free / some paid, to do the same thing.

Cheers!
Robert

It is best to do a "Clone" as it copies from the old disk to the new disk. For safety select the option to leave the files on the old disk. You can erase later. If you try to do an Image backup and then restore to the new drive you need another drive for temp storage of the image. After you have them cloned and the new disk is working OK then I would erase the old disk and use it as a backup. If you make a Image backup you can then store it on the old drive.
