new HD (not master) not being recognized.

I have not done any RAID setups either.

But I seem to remember seeing both Raids have to be the same size partitions.

Hopefully another member with RAID Drive experience can help.

But it's late night here, so I am saying Goodnight for now.

Somebody here at SevenForums will have the answer ;)

Moknathal. I believe I may know what's going on. I though you had right clicked on the black unallocated space while you were right clicking on the square grayish part.

My bad!

Right click the black part and choose format if it allows you to do so. Use NTFS. You can use a "quick" format. Good luck!

Hey thank you both! Um, I'm a little...how can I say...disappointed in myself for not realizing straight away about which part he was clicking. Rookie mistake lol. Very glad this had a favorable resolution.

i do not have raid enabled in the bios. does anyone know if i should do that?
NO! do not use raid enabled unless you are plannining a redundant drive system.
How did you connect the new hard drive?

Good morning Doc, redundant drive set ups will use the smallest drive in the array!
If you run 3-4 drives of different sizes in the RAID the system will only use the smallest drive of the combination to write to all 4. That is if you have drive 1 @250 gig, drive 2 500 gig etc, RAID will only use 250 gigs of each drive.

Hi Adrian, Just wondering, about why not to use the RAID settings?

I'm running my BIOS SATA setting in RAID, both 500GB HDs are listed as 'Non-RAID Hard Drives', no issues.

My choices are IDE or RAID. I choose RAID so I can Hot Swap my external HD. As it's actually using AHCI, my HD performance has increased.

This is how my settings were when I installed Win7 RC, twice, Win7 Ult, once, no issues. All installations were with USB drive and took about 15 min plus updates and install programs, so a couple of hours.

It has caused issues with some computers/MOBOs, but hopefully there's a work around.
