Hi i have a new MSI mobo H61M-P31(G3) that i used to replace a Dell mobo(unknown model) everything fit right and all drivers installed right but still have no sound. I'm not sure if this is due to a driver conflict because i did not reinstall windows or if it is a fault on the board. Yes i have tried everything from different speakers to different driver versions to no avail. I guess what i am asking is would this be a problem caused by the old windows install and should i reinstall windows.

TBH im surprised it worked without a reinstall, did you sysprep or prepare the OS for hardware migration ?
If not then its hard to say, chances are the wrong/no audio drivers are installed but it could also be something else
Have you checked device manager for any unrecognised devices/caution marks

Yes i have went into device manager and there in no explanation marks are anything and under audio is a Realtek Highdef device. As for prepping the OS i've never herd of i just figured when i power it up windows would recognize the hardware changes and load drivers and what did not load i installed from the disc then updated using the MSI live update. I also used driver removal from guru and uninstalled all audio drivers and then reinstalled them to no avail

Hi Wajiema,

Welcome to Seven forums.

This could be an issue with the audio ports on the motherboard as well. As sound card might be fine on the system and also drivers are loaded correctly.

Are the sound ports are integrated to the motherboard or you have daughterboard connected to the main board.

If it is separate port then kindly check if they are properly connected. Also let us know was this motherboard used on a different system where audio ports worked or not.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Do you have a speaker icon in lower right corner and have you selected a default device for audio?

Thank you guys for the response. I have checked to make sure that it is plugged into the right port and the realtek audio manger does detect it. I do have the speaker Icon by the clock i can click on it and it shows sound should be playing. As for being in another system, it is a brand new board just bought from Frye's so it should work.

Ok just got back from my mom's(it's her computer) and did a fresh install of windows 7 ultimate and reinstalled all the MSI drivers to the sound to the chipset to the IntelME driver and still no sound. I am at a lost of Ideas now. I am thinking of RMAing it and getting a new one but thought i would wait a few days to see if anyone else could have any other ideas. I also tried install the Vista AC887 driver.zip file and did now work either.

Hi Wajiema,

It seems to be an issue with the motherboard itself. You should consider getting it replaced. As if it would have been drivers issue then you should received some error while installing the same.

Also, is the audio port on the motherboard or it is a different port connect to the main board. If yes then reconnect the cable connecting it to the board to ensure they are plugged in properly.

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago and I kept playing with things and got it to work. Have you tried the front audio connector will it play music there? Try to wiggle the connector in it's socket and see if you can hear any sounds.

To SandeepP no it is not a daughter board it is soldered onto the mobo at the back I/O panel and I've tried wiggling the plug and the ports on the board to no avail. I also removed it from the case to make sure there were no extra standoffs or and thing else that might short it out and nothing. linnemeyerhere i do not have the front panel connected to the board because they are different headers, i did read some where about putting jumpers on the JAUDIO header so i read up on my board and did what was recommended and still nothing. I guess my final solution would be to return the board for a new one. Thank you all for your advice and help and I'll re post the new board's performance in about a week.

Hi Wajiema,

If its not on a different audio board then no other options left other than getting the motherboard replaced.

Please check the replacement motherboard and let us know the results of the same. Hopefully the replacement one works like a charm.

Hi Wajiema,

Its great to hear that it worked fine with a different motherboard on the system. I am sure they would be alot of questions posted here, where you can offer help.
