New rig + Radeon 6950 = trouble

This is what the GeForce 8800M GT looks like:

In other words... won't work.

Seems like I could stick it into one of the slots :D

You could try..... and destroy the card..... or damage your MB ;)

Well, I'd love a decent explanation =)
I'm sure that I can secure the thing in the case...so where would the damage come from?

Honestly I don't have all the answers so If you want to try it, go for it, it's your rig.

I'm sure the pin configuration and power requirements are different, but I didn't build the thing and have no proof. Nor did I do any researce on it. I'm just thinking that thing was made for a laptop, not a desktop ;)

Again, If you feel like you want to prove otherwise, go for it. I'm sure you'll let us know the results

I can tell you right now the power that comes out of a full blown PCI-E slot will fry that sunuvabitch in a heartbeat... if you even got it to seat properly. There are way too many contacts on the 8800M to fit in ANY desktop motherboard slot.

I guess that would make for one heck of a "decent explanation" - Plugging it in and watching it fry

:D
