Hello, I just bought WD 1TB Black for my secondary HDD few days ago.
For the first few days, it worked just fine, but after few days, it started to show some awake from inactive motion, so at first, I tried to connect SATA cable into different SATA port and tried everything to fix this problem. Then I found out that this can be caused by power option so I also changed my power option as well, and since yesterday, my second hard drive doesn't work at all. It just freezes whole computer. I don't know what to do. I can't format nor, do anything to fix this HDD since it just freezes up every time I do something related to this HDD. Should I just return this HDD and get a new one?

Try on another computer if you have the chance, but you can just return to shop and let them deal with it.

Hi there chnboi and welcome to sevenforums!

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're having with the new drive. What I would recommend you to do is to plug the drive in a different computer to see if it will be recognized there, and if it's recognized to run a test to check the health of the HDD, and any errors/bad sectors as well, with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics:

I would return it, asap.

When you get the new one hooked up, slow down and read any windows that pop up carefully, before you proceed.

It will ask you to initialize the drive as GPT or MBR, since it`s only a 1 TB drive choose MBR then create a Primary partition and format it NTFS and you should be fine.

Just wondering if IntelliPower feature of your drive is faulty. Those disks are supposed to power down and adapt their speed according to demand as far as I know. In theory it should increase it's lifetime and health. I have no real world experience with them though, my WD's are Black/Green Caviars from 5 years ago and lack that feature.

All WD Blacks are 7200 RPM and doesn't have IntelliPower. The drives thjat have it are WD Green, Red and Purple.
