new to overclocking and need help

hey guys as i have just got a new gigabyte P43-ES3G motherboard and wanting, to overclock my new ocz plat memory i have 6gb @800mhz and was wanting, to take it to 1200 if posible and i have two other sticks, that are kingston running @667mhz, and was wanting to take them up a little if i can hope someone can help me out thanks.

ehhhh 50% increase in speed is probably going to make things a little unstable. if you want to overclock you should do it in small bumbs and thoroughly test stability before moving up again.

I would caution anyone who wants to over clock. Just look at the BSOD's and see how many are from currently or previously overclocked systems.

If you must over clock at least do it in small baby steps, have a back up and dont put anything on it you cant afford to loose.

i have learnt how to do my cpu i have done that abit at, A timebut now it's just memory and i have a bios back up already, but just don't no how to do the timings for the memory, so if you guys could give me a helping hand would be awsome.

Are you talking about mixing the OCZ and Kingston modules? Or are the Kingstons in a separate machine, which you're also hoping to bump up?

1200 mhz is extremely ambitious for 800mhz. They'd have to be really good 'binned' modules to make that. It's highly unlikely you'll get 1200mhz. 900mhz is a safer and more realistic goal.

Also, with 6 GB on that board (P43-ES3G), you aren't running in dual-channel - this hurts performance to begin with.



However, If you want to try, the general guide is looser timings + more volts for RAM and the sometimes the Northbridge (NB)


Realistically though, with those specs, the difference would not be noticeable.

The kingston sticks are on my desk if i need to put them in, but ther is just 6gb of ocz and your right it's not in dual channel, so ther would be no diffrence if i took them up? if so i will leave it as is but thanks anyways guys.
