new to overclocking, need help

i have a general idea of things involved, however, i really want some help before i completely destroy my stuff. i want to overclock my CPU. if someone could please inform me on how to do it safely, i would especially appreciate it

that was prety helpful, but i still would like it if someone could explain to me some precautionary things, and i like to really understand what im doing so its easyer to avert later if i screw somthing up

Before you even think about overclocking, be a real good idea to know exactly what components you actually have. Based on what you have listed in your specs, you need to figure that out first. If it is still the original HP motherboard that you have in it then you can outright forget about overclocking as the bios will be locked from being able to do so.

If it isn't the HP motherboard, fill in the exact make and model of motherboard you do have. Also here is another guide to help,

As for what can go wrong; the wrong settings can either cause it to be unstable in windows and BSOD, or it can just outright refure to boot at all. If it BSOD's you need to back off on your settings. If it won't boot after making changes, then you need to check the motherboard manual on how to reset the bios; either by jumper or if supported, holding the power button for a few seconds.

before you even start thinking about overclocking you should do a lot of reading up on it. make sure you no what your doing first. make sure you understand about the voitage setting and so on. (better to be safe then sorry ). overclocking is
fun but it could be damaging. so please check out the other sites and don't just dive into it.

i have been able to do some experimenting temporarily with amd overdrive. and yes its a stock board, but im getting a new one from ASRock that should be a LOT better
