Mac OSX EULA makes that very clear, Apple authorizes user to use their OS only on Apple computers.

I am really amazed that the EU let's them get away with that. Even the US authorities should get into the act. That is called bundling and given that the Mac PCs cost twice as much as the exact same Win PCs, that should be a real no, no.

I've always wanted a simple way to run different OSes on my laptop without using VMWare..which I hate... Soooooo much I'm behind on!

Out of curiosity, what has been the problem with VMWare? I've used virtual pc, XP mode, VMware Server, VMWare Workstation, VMWare Player 3.x, VMWare ESXi, Virtual Box, etc all without any significant issue. (except running Linux guests in the Microsoft products...they don't cater to making them work well).

My current personal VM software of choice is VMWare player. It's ability to import XP Mode and Unity mode pretty much makes it ideal. And fantastic support for Linux guests...which are typically what I use.

I generally use VMWare player on my work station at work, because I use their enterprise products extensively in our data centers. So, keeping in the same product family keeps terminology and concepts a little more clear and concise.

For quite some time at home, I used to use vbox as my home software of choice as it was more Linux friendly than the MS products, and was a more straight forward product than VMWare Server 2.0. VMWare Workstation was never really a consideration as I didn't want to pony up the money...nor did I really need the extra features.

When VMWare changed Player in version 3.x to create VM's as well as run them...I checked out that product and it was a great fit for me. Kept the consistency that I wanted..was available at no cost, and ran Linux boxes great.

For me, it's primarily work consistency that is the most important thing. I have approx 200 virtual machines within our environments and local offices that I support and it's all using vmware products.

I use vMware Workstation 6 not 7. vMware Workstation 6 seems to work on T6400 (T6400 does not support hardware virtualization). vMware Workstation 7 does not seem to work on T6400.

Maybe they are focusing on new hardware?

Doubtful as I can get VMware Workstation 7.1 (ran 7 a while ago) on a Pentium D machine quite easily and that's quite older compared to the T6400. You might want to start a thread on your specific issue with version 7.
