Nitro PDF vicious, uneradicable leftovers in Word 2003

Hello,

I recently had the very bad idea of installing a free version of Nitro PDF for testing purposes. It stuck a new Nitro Pro menu on top of my Microsoft Word 2003, without asking, unannounced. I always use custom installs when they are available. None of the regular Word add-in deactivation techniques worked. I asked for help on Nitro Forum, to no avail.

Now I've uninstalled Nitro PDF, in the hope that the added menu would go away. It didn't, despite this was a thorough uninstall with Revo Uninstaller, reverting a logged installation, and using the most aggressive settings for additional cleaning.

Then I did a search in the registry, and I found several dozens of Nitro keys left, despite the Revo scrubbing. I deleted them. After restarting the computer, the Nitro menu is still in Word.

The problem is, there's no Nitro listing in the usual places where un-ticking it or deleting it would make it go away.

Any ideas ? Thank you.

This MS website might help you. The first part deals with resetting the Registry which could help, but if you scroll down a bit you will see under More Information, click on Templates & Add Ins. This provides info on how to reset the Normal.dot Template which is the basic template Word uses that stores all your settings etc., so you will need to reset all those.

It seems you managed to time-freeze some Office 2003 how-to's at Microsoft support in Australia ? I thought Microsoft had long deleted all those, since Office 2003 is not longer supported. That page is quickly going into my local files.

I'm rather reluctant to reset my normal.dot file, since this would presumably delete all my settings, not only that wretched Nitro Pro menu I never asked for.

I'll try to make the most of that Microsoft support page, and then I will let you know how I managed.

Run as Admin post both logs

Thank you very much for your offer. There are a few private informations in those logs. Are there any specific sections that are more needed in this case ?

I just hit the Scanning button without touching anything else. The result is FRST.txt and Addition.txt.

Hi Clairvaux,

those logs are regularly posted on many forums - allways when malware detection is involved, not in this case tho. Its a remarkably good tool for removing other entries as well - like yours
