I just uninstalled Debut video capture from NCH software and it appears to have taken the audio with it. I am running windows 7 on a dell inspiron 1545. I downloaded my device drivers but that didn't help. When I mouse over my audio icon i get the message: no audio output device is installed.
I will provide any information needed if someone would be willing to help. Is there another codec I need to install? is this malware?

The audio should have been detected by Windows on a reboot and if the IDT drivers were no longer there Windows should have installed the generic, basic function, High Definition Audio Driver (Codec).

As Windows didn't install the driver suggests either the sound has somehow been disabled in the BIOS or the Intel motherboard chipset drivers were corrupted.

As a first step, reinstall the Intel Motherboard chipset drivers. One of the things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard. Reboot the PC after installing the chipset drivers and note if either the IDT sound drivers or the Windows installed HD Audio Drivers are installed. If the HD Audio Drivers are installed, download and and install the IDT sound drivers from the Dell downloads.

If, after installing the chipset drivers and rebooting, the sound is still not detected check the BIOS. If it still is not detected, unfortunately the next step is a complete reinstall. As this came with Win 7, you can't use the Dell PC Restore (F8 at power on) you will have to do a reinstall from the Win 8 disc.

Thanks very much for the detailed info. Trying now. If it means anything, I reinstalled the program and the sound came back.
