I have an ASUS M5A88-M motherboard with Realtek HD onboard audio. I rebuilt the machine bringing it back to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and now have no audio. All indications show that audio is playing meaning the green bar shows movement when audio is happening. The default sound device is set to speakers

Here's what I've done so far to try to fix:
  • Updated the motherboard BIOS to the latest version
  • Updated the latest Realtek drivers
  • Uninstalled the Realtek drivers and rebooted
  • Confirmed onboard audio is enabled in the BIOS
  • Confirmed the speakers and headphones are working on other computers

Control Panel / Sound shows the Speakers as the DEFAULT device and as mentioned when I play something I can see the green indicator bar moving up and down but no sound.

I've attached images of Device Manager, Control Panel-Sound and the Speaker volumne.

I don't know what else to try here as I've already spent hours trying to fix this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you don't want to hear. What I've seen of this problem, on forums, is its a Windows problem and a complete reinstall is needed.

Considering what you listed that you have done, its back to the OS or a hardware problem with the Realtek audio chip.

check the audio cable connections for your speakers to the audio jacks at either the front or back of the computer - that gets overlooked

are you using powered or amplified speakers? connecting passive or non-powered speakers (like my old Polk Audio speakers) may produce weak or no sound
