SOLVED: No Audio INPUT Device

I have an Asus P6T motherboard with Realtek ALC1200 on board audio and Windows 7 64 bit OS, DirectX 10, Audio Driver version 6.0.1.5859.
The sound works normally for all audio functions.

I installed Nero and went to use the Wave Editor application to record a song from the web and got the message "Unable to open recording device". Going to Options > Device Settings > for an Input Device there only shows "MME:(wave mapper)". There is no other input device listed.

In Device Manager the "Realtek High Definition Audio" device shows as the only device. Going to "Manage Audio Devices" and the "Recording Tab" there shows only "Microphone" and "Line In". There is no "Realtek Digital Input" device listed (as I've seen in web screenshots from others).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get an input device listed to use with Nero recording?

You will need the "System Mixer" to record streaming audio from the internet. Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound. Click on the Recording Tab and then RIGHT click in a blank area and check the option to show disabled devices. If the System Mixer is there, select it as default.

Hey Fireberd, That did it. Pretty Damned Easy. Thank You for the tip.
I'm sure I will have more (stupid?) questions as I adapt to W7 and a 64 bit OS, jumping from XP-SP3 32 Bit. I'm 4 days into it. I've got a list here!
Again, Thanks a million.

Great! you are lucky as some versions of the drivers do not have the System Mixer.

Merry Christmas.

I also have the same problem

I also have the same problem. I tried to do the same thing in control panel and the other steps, but in recording devices, only the microphone was shown even after I had already enabled the display of disabled devices. I do get sound and all, but when I try to use snagit for capturing videos on the screen, I get no audio and the "no audio input device" message appears. Well, if there's some way to solve that, please give me a hand. Thanks.

Mikaza- here are all the steps I did to get my sound recording from all sources to work. I am assuming that you have the Realtek sound chip and driver.

ACTIVATE THE STEREO MIX DEVICE
Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices > Recording Tab >
Rx in the white area > Check: Show Disabled Devices >
Rx Stereo Mix device > Enable
Make sure it is checked as the default device.
ENABLE LINE IN
Start > Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Manage Audio Devices > Recording Tab >
Line In > Rx > Properties > Listen Tab > Check: "Listen to this device" > Apply > OK
REALTEK PROPERTIES
Double click Realtek speaker icon > "Device Advanced Settings" > Record Device
Change: "Tie Up" to "Separate all input jacks as independent input devices"

In addition, I found that my webcam microphone was on constantly and interfered with recording in Nero using the Line In. I have to disconnect the webcam before doing any recording.

I also found that in Nero 9 there are no input options in Wave Editor from the drop down list, but all will work anyway provided the correct device is enabled in DEvice Manager.

HTH

Hello mrdreamers. Welcome to the forum.

First, good netiquette says you should always start a new thread rather than glom on to an old one. This is to help others looking to solve a similar problem.

To answer your Q: For some ungodly reason many integrated sound chips and the drivers for them of this era have the Stereo Mix functionality disabled. Yours may be one of them.

See here: Re: E521 where is the stereo-mix for this integrated Sigmatel audio? - Desktop Audio Forum - Desktop - Dell Community

Some people have reported being able to hack the driver or install different drivers that enabled the function, but in most cases the attempts just trash the audio.
I had one laptop that I spent untold hours working on to fix this and had to give up, and I don't give up easily!

See here: Elie El Khoury » Sigmatel Stereo Mix support for Dell ★

Good luck!
