Hello all, I recently built a desktop so that I could play SWTOR, all the parts were salvaged from other computers, but they are all working and compatible, to the best of my knowledge, except for the hard drive, which was broken, so I went out and bought a Western Digital 1 TB hard drive and a new copy of Windows 7 Home Edition.

When I got home I plugged the hard drive, a SATA drive, in and popped the install disk in, only right after I got to the "Install Now" button and clicked it did I get this message;

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK

Followed by;

A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

I know that all the required parts are in the computer, yet I can't seem to figure out how to solve this, any help at all would be appreciated.

Have a look in the bios & check the settings in there. Sounds like it is trying to load a raid array.

Nope, switching it to AHCI didn't work, still the same result as before.

Reset BIOS to defaults, then try again AHCI mode first, then IDE mode.

Write the latest Win7 SP1 ISO to flashstick using Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu, boot under USB, Removable or HD's on one-time BIOS Boot Menu key. Set HD as first to boot in BIOS setup. Unplug DVD drive while trying USB install. We do this to eliminate the installer as possibility since the error is almost always installer.

Remove all but 2gb RAM to try install. Swap the RAM around. Test the RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Partition the HD in another computer or using free Partition Wizard bootable CD, create 100gb Primary partition, set it Active. If this fails, wipe the HD using Diskpart Clean Command. Test the HD using Data Lifeguard extended CD scan. We see failed new HD's sometimes.

You can also move the HD to another machine to install Win7 then SysPrep it before moving it back to target machine: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

same issue 2 separate machines?

Change from raid to the next one down. Not the ide one. Sorry. Gone blank. :eek:

Sorry to bring back an old thread... But i have my Windows 7 Ultimate Key and downloaded the original Untouched ISO image from here (Listed on the third reply) ... By the way i have burned this ISO image using The "Brasero" Image burner from within Kali. Not sure if that makes a difference. The burner on my Desktop machine has died on me and i'll be installing a new one today. I've wasted two DVD discs on this already!

This has happened on two separate machines:

My laptop, which has Kali Linux installed on it, and I've reset the BIOS settings to default which did not resolve the issue.

This also occurred on the Desktop Machine that i have at home which has Windows 7 Ultimate on it. (I have not reset BIOS settings on that one as of yet)

Should i just re-download the file? I read somewhere that might help because it could have been a bad install.

By the way... What drivers is it talking about ? The HDD drivers or the DVD/CD Reader/writer?

Thanks in advance

Download a new ISO file and use the tool provided, both in Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool.

I've never heard of the Win7 ISO being burned to disk using Linux tools which are not at all optimal for Win7.

Other tips here to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the tools which work best.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yea the only reason i burned it on my linux machine is because the burner on my Win7 Desktop machine died. I was able to boot to the disc and everything. So all seemed well until that error came up.

Also, changing the name of the file from "X17-59465.iso" to "Win7ULTx63OEM" (To better organize my files) shouldn't cause any problems, right?

It requires a special tool to assuredly burn the large Win7 ISO. Use ImgBurn or the MS tool provided.

Name change shouldn't matter.

OK awesome. Yea i usually use ImgBurn (That software rocks) but i don't understand why this Linux burner software would cause a problem... At the least it's created the disc so that i can boot to it...so it works somewhat...

ImgBurn will be tried as soon as i get home and install my new Burner.

Also, do you know if that error is referring to the driver's needed for the DVD player/burner or the HDD itself?

The error is a bad installer.

That's a great answer but we're looking for fixes here.

Are you saying that we re-download the ISO image? Because i'm already doing that once i get to the house. And i'll be sure to post the results.

Thanks guys. i downloaded another copy and will use imgburn (which is what i've always used in the past to burn and have had absolutely zero issue) and let you guys know.

Also...I wonder if imgburn could be succesfully used via WINE on Kali ... i guess that a question for an entirely different forum site though.

You guys are great! Thanks for the answers! Whenever i find time i'll see if i can't find some (easy) ones that i can answer ;)
