No Internet after new Windows 7 install

I have no hair left, so if you can help it is too late! Anyway, here is my problem. New Windows 7 home premium 64 bit install and have completed uploading the drivers etc. MB has a Realtek onboard LAN card (8168c). What is happening is the network comes and goes. I can connect fine directly through the broadband modem. Yes you see that correctly, through modem it works fine. Only when I try to connect directly to my DLINK DIR-655 am I having issues. I have looked at the WINSOCK issue I found on here and no luck. I have installed and re-installed the Realtek card but no luck. I have tried most everything (seems that way anyway).

Not sure why but everything seems to be working so don't bother posting help. Wish I knew what was going on because I know this happens a lot by the many similar posts.
