no internet connection after mcafee uninstall

HELP!
just uninstalled mcafee using the macafee tool and find i cannot connect to internet,
this is on my daughters acer aspire one.
wireless connection is ok full signal and other devics connect ok with no problem.
followed several tutorials and reset my internet connection but still nothing.
when i select diagnose connections it tells me there is no problem.

any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, welcome to the forums

What browser do you use?

If you use Internet Explorer then try the following...

1, Open Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options
2, Click the Connections tab then click Lan Settings
3, If 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' is selected then de-select it, click OK then OK

Now try opening your browser and see if that's solved the issue.

If what Orbital Shark said here doesn't solve your issue follow the next steps:

1) go to start, type "cmd" in the search bar (without quotes), right click it and "run as administrator".
2) type this: "ipconfig /release" (w/o quotes) and press enter.
3) now type: "ipconfig /flushdns" (w/o quotes) and press enter.
4) now: "ipconfig /renew" and press enter.

If that doesn't solve it, do the following

1) type on the CMD window: "netsh winsock reset catalog" and press enter.
2) after done, type: "netsh int ip reset reset.log" and press enter.

Reboot and check if everything works!

And of course, report back... please

and find out whats going on.

In the meantime you may wish to install Microsoft Security Essentials. It works flawlessly with any Windows based machine

Bless You, Punkster! netsh cmds Fixed Network After McAfee Removal

As with stevejbf, I lost all network connectivity after I removed McAfee products. I already run MS Security Essentials with no trouble, but my company periodically auto-installs McAfee products -- and they create BSOD's within minutes (yes -- even with Security Essentials and all other security software removed).

My network loss occurred when I removed McAfee products from within an XP SP3 virtual machine running on a Windows 7 Enterprise host laptop (lots of variables created lots of fear that I'd never get this working, again!).

I had known enough to run the ipconfig commands. I also tried the diagnostics and "repair" buttons and links available in IE and Windows networking dialogs, to no avail.
When I finally tried the following final steps as advised by Punkster, my XP VM's network connections came back to life!:
1) type on the CMD window: "netsh winsock reset catalog" and press enter.
2) after done, type: "netsh int ip reset reset.log" and press enter.
3) Reboot and check if everything works!

What a relief! Now I have my weekend back!

McAfee is unfortunately in a lot of advanced users opinion seen as a badly written piece of software, ( I cleaned that up )

In addition to less than stellar performance the fact that the software is written without following the rules set down for developing software by Microsoft and convention it is difficult to remove and tends to leave some system settings in the wrong state
The NetSh command set is an old standard for low level control and setup of networks a full description is available here ... netsh - Wikipedia ... although it is not something that you will normally need to use it's still used in major networks as it can be scripted for use remotely and unattended

Windows 7 can't get on internet

I know this thread is pretty old, but it looks to relate directly to my problem. I have Windows 7 (64 bit) and have been using it without issues. I decided to install McAFee last week as I had been running unprotected for a little while. I installed it and everything went fine. Today, I was working on my laptop without issue and then all of a sudden I couldn't connect to the web. I did reboot my modem/router/laptop and it's not issue with modem/router as other devices in house can connect. I also connected thru ethernet cable and still can't get on any website thru any browser (so not wifi issue) So I decided to uninstall McAfee thru Control Panel. Don't know if that was related or coincidence but was trying to troubleshoot. Still can't get on. I am able to ping websites thru CMD line either by IP address or website name, but can't connect via browser. When I run network troubleshooing it says it believes there is a firewall or security policy blocking it. I went in and disabled Windows firewall just to make sure that wasn't it and still no luck.
The only way I get connected is if I boot up in safe mode with networking. I did install Security Essentials while in safemode and ran scan with that and it found nothing.



I feel like somehow it thinks there is a firewall restricting me, but like I said there is no firewall enabled at this point. Hoping someone has some ideas! Thank you
