I'm supposed to have a 'jump list' if I right-click a programme in the quick-launch area.

All I have is Programme name and Unpin.

How do I set this system up?

You may try a trick ... right click on taskbar and click on properties . In the upcoming window select the Start menu tab , and in the privacy are check both the boxes . If you dont have the second box checked as in the screenshot , you will not be able to get jumplists :D

Thank you for the tip. Tried it - doesn't work.

I took the Vista Start Menu off and rebooted, but still nothing on right click except Progname and Unpin. I looked at various files with Explorer, but still nothing.

CCleaner's Clear Jumplist History has been unticked for some time.

I think the next thing will to be the ShellView routine in one of your links.

But come to think of it, I've never had jumplists so this has probably been broken since the beginning!

Hello Cheemag,

This may be due to the IsShortcut registry key being removed by mistake, usually if the improper XP method is used to removed the shortcut arrow overlay icon instead of the Vista/Windows 7 method.

Download and merge the lnk (LNK) option in the tutorial below. It will restore the IsShortcut key and all related associations and settings to hopefully fix this for you afterwards.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn, but it didn't work although the lnk option was added. After a reboot there's still only the option to launch or unpin after visiting various files in Explorer and loading files into UltraEdit. :(

I've had the same issue but it's only been for IE8 jumplists. Never figured out why even though I tried many different things. I just now figured out why I have no IE8 jumplists but I do have them for everything else that's pinned. I just now looked at Search Status gadget and noticed that the indexed total had increased by 1000 in the time it took me to read this thread. I opened up Search Indexer options and noticed that Internet History had been added back in to be indexed. Sure enough, the IE8 jumplists are showing back up. I can uncheck IE 8 History in Indexer options and jumplists are gone. My mystery is solved. I find it amazing that I looked at the Indexer Status gadget total count prior to reading your post, minimized the browser after reading it and during that time IE8 History was some how added back in to make IE8 jumplists work

Hang on a minute here: I have disabled the indexing system for reasons which I now forget. Could this be the problem?

Did that, didn't change anything. Largest file was 13,408 KB. Deleted them all, used Explorer and UltraEdit a bit, but no Jumplists.

I understand that a right click on a pinned item you've used before should give you a menu of files opened recently by that programme, with the ability to open one again with a single click?

Cheemag,

Did you enable the search index to see if it works afterwards? It may take a bit after opening recent items for them to show you though.

I go along with this! Correct me if I'm wrong but, SearchIndexer Process and Indexing service are two different animals. At any rate, when indexing of Internet History is added back into Search Indexer options, you will get two additional processes that pop in and out of Task Manager when surfing the net. It may be the same for recent file lists of the Start Menu etc.. but I've never noticed it until now. I do know one thing, adding back Internet History has fixed two issues that have plagued me for some time which I could not fix nor could the fine folks here at Seven when asked

1) As mentioned, IE8 jumplists returned

2) When closing out and IE8 session, one of the IE8 processes would remain for about an extra one minute before it would stop. It doesn't do that no that IE8 History has been added back to SearchIndexer. Needless to say, I've very happy with the Original Poster of this thread.

Firefox does that, and if you try to restart it before the process terminates you get an error message.

Firefox does that, and if you try to restart it before the process terminates you get an error message.

I remember that it used to do that. Since you mention this, prior to me fixing this IE8 jumplist issue, IE8 would crash also if I terminated the lingering process. I eventually used Group Policy or it might have been Registry to stop the crash notification. Haven't used Firefox in Win 7 yet and probably won't. On my XP boot, I still use Firefox although it's a very, very old version that I will not update.

Did you ever get your jumplists working?

No, still no jumplists. They are just not implemented. I've never had jumplists on this machine.

Cheemag,

Yes, I did it yesterday or the day before.

I now have a 'Recent Places' in my open file dialogue for UltraEdit which I didn't have before. Is this what is meant by a Jump List ?

I only have one appropriate programme (UltraEdit) pinned at the moment. My word processor (Atlantis) doesn't have a Recent Places, nor has any other apporopriate application as far as I can tell.
