After restarting my computer I got "no signal". I thought my graphics card had died and sent it back to the retailer. They tested it and found it to be faulty and sent me a replacement card. Having installed the new card this morning I'm still getting "no signal" (DVI/HDMI). All lights are green and I'm not getting any beeps.

Any idea what could be wrong? I don't have an onboard GPU or any spare parts I can try.

GPU: Gainward GTX 570 Phantom 1280MB GDDR5

CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Socket 1366 8MB

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 Socket 1366 8 Channel Audio

PSU: Antec Truepower Quattro 1200W

It could be the cable. To test try a different cable - if you are using HDMI then try the DVI connection, or vice-versa. Or try a new cable.

Test the monitor on another computer also (just to rule it out).

It is not common but possible that you got 2 defective cards. But perhaps there was nothing wrong with the other card either. How do you know they tested it? Many people assume this, but in many cases it is faster and easier for a company to just ship out the RMA replacement and bin the returned card for testing in the future.
The fact that the old card was tested defective is an important one. A wrong assumption can send you off in the wrong direction.

Thanks TV I've already tried a 3 HDMI and two DVI cables, I've also tried two different monitors and a television. The other card was tested by the retailer (their tech team) and it was found to be faulty. I can't say for sure they tested it but they had the card for over a week and told me it was "found to be faulty".

Waiting to hear back from tech support as we speak. Is there anyway to rule out my motherboard and PSU? I don't have another computer suitable to test them. Thanks again for taking the time to answer TV. :)

Hi
Mostly we can try to connect the display to available onboard VGA/DVI port. But, unluckily I found that your Mobo doesn't have one of it. So the left option is to plug the card to other available PCIE 16, or try another VGA card. Make sure all PCIE 16 slots are enabled (if any)

Thanks Kevin, I will try that I think I have two PCIE 16 slots on my MOBO. I'm not sure about a VGA but I'll have a look, I'll get back to you with the results.

Agreed^

The best way to test the motherboard is by testing another (different) card. An option a lot of people do not have at their disposal. But if you have or can borrow one just to test with that may be the way to go.
I assume you have not gotten to the OS install yet, so uninstalling/installing drivers would not be an issue.

As for the PS, if it has a second set of power connectors try those. And try unplugging all unneeded 12v devices (Hard drive, DVD).

I don't have another board however I had asked a friend who is a computer repairs technician if he could install my new card. He's done so and he now thinks that it was the CPU that had blown as it was very (very) hot. He's pretty sure it's not the MOBO or PSU so I'm contacting the retailer now to see if they'll test the CPU.

Worst case scenario if I have to buy a new CPU what's the best one out there just now? Thanks for all your help everyone I really appreciate it. :)

Grace x

It's kindda weird thing on my view here.
First you got notified if the GPU Card was defective. Now you got your CPU burned.?
Looking at your mobo spec, it has good utility to warn you about any overheating. In worst case, if it get overheated, normally it will shutdown then when you start over it will tell you the system was shutdown due to overheat. That what was with my previous Gigabyte Mobo. But I get rid of that Gigabyte as it just lived for 13 months then died.

For new CPU (processor) you can stick with another Core i7 that fit your Socket (LGA 1366). But if it true, better have your mobo checked for voltage instability, and also the CPU fan socket.

I just expect you get better option from retailer. (as long as they are the one who assembled the system then you have to make an inquiry for the reason of the defective system)

My friend did say at the beginning it could be the CPU but he could tell the GPU had been fried. The retailer checked my GPU and it was defective. There's nothing else wrong with my computer the green lights, no beeps the only thing is the CPU is very warm and I'm getting "No Signal".

I did get a please reboot your computer message and I got no signal after the reboot. I hadn't been playing games but a few switches tripped in our house. So I'm thinking we had a power surge or something maybe?

I'm looking at a the i7 960 hopefully I'll get store credit to help pay for it but who knows. It's stupid but I'm starting to really miss my PC. Separation anxiety perhaps?

Well Grace.

Any lost or separation sometimes is followed by certain grieve. that's totally normal as long as you are not weeping. ;)

Switches tripped several times can really cause problem, but not likely to your CPU I guess. Did you mean you don't use any UPS for your system? That sounds unsafe to me. :(

Sorry Kevin I'm not sure what you mean by UPS?

To Deacon I do have it connected to all the right places. My power supply is HUGE and has it's own cable for the graphics card or so I'm told. My friend is a certified technician he does this sort of thing as a living so I'm confidant it's all connected properly. He just didn't bring any spare parts with him thinking the new GPU would solve the problem.

Thanks everyone for your help with all my threads. :)

UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). An electric device stands between your machine and power source to provide your machine a constant and stable power, free from any surge. As it has battery then you still have your machine runs when having switches tripped, until you switch it back alive. Or, if it is black out, you will have enough time to save your work and shutdown in a proper way.

Grace, I remember you saying that you had a large amount of dust in your system. Remove the GPU from the slot and give the slot a good blast with the canned air.

Also, are you able to get a post screen or the BIOS screen at all? Or do you have nothing at all when the pc loads? Also, do you have another PSU to test? It may be that your PCIe leads on the PSU are bad, this could have led to the demise of your old card.

Further thinking here, you have a clear CMOS button on the back of your MoBo under your Keyboard and mouse jacks. Power down the pc and press and hold the clear cmos button for 5 seconds. Reboot and see what happens.

To Kevin, I don't have a UPS I've never heard of this before I will have to get one at some point. I have all my tech plugged into surge protection plugs though. The machine didn't cut out I had rebooted after using the computer not from cold start and then got "No Signal"

To James, I'm not getting to the bios screen. All the hard drives, optical drives and fans are all working. I had already cleared the bios using the CMOS button following the instruction manual before and after I installed the new card, thinking I may have messed up the bios. I've also had the battery removed and replaced and the inside of case cleaned with compressed air.

The CPU was removed and when I touched it 30 minutes later it was still hot. I had only had it on for a few minutes each boot to test the card that's not normal is it? The inside of my case is really quite cool so I can only think it's a mech fault. *sigh* Thanks guys I owe you all hugs, I'll be sure to update this thread should anything fix the issue.

Thanks again everyone. :)

Grace x

I apologise James for not getting back to your PM. I was going to bed for a bit as I'm quite tired but thought I'd give you a quick reply. I have double checked all 3 sticks are seated in the blue slots. When my RAM isn't seated properly it beeps like mad and I haven't had any beeps.

I will have my boyfriend do as you suggested in your PM and update the thread if anything works. I really appreciate all you've done that goes for everyone else to. The retailer are not going to replace the CPU :banghead: they've told me to get in touch with Intel as they have a 3 year warranty on that model of CPU.

I can't find an email address or telephone number for the UK but I'm tired and will check again later.

See you all later. :grouphug:

Okay, well, when you get a chance try them in the white slots. Get some rest.
