no sound after upgrade to win 7 = ?

I upgraded from x64 vista to win 7 and lost sound. I tried HP help by because I upgraded the graphics card to MSI GeForce 8400GS 512MB so they were useless and couldn't assist me because it wasn't the original card.

I downloaded the most recent drivers from the manufacture but that didn't help. The only thing I can think of to do is to do a complete reinstall of win 7, wiping out all data which I hate to do but I'm getting used to it with MS.

Any help of course would be magical.

I'm having the same problem with my HP Pavilion. I tried the reinstall. No luck. I have started a thread, too, and I'll let you know if I find anything useful.
