Long story short. Just recently I have not been able to get sound on my computer (All In One Desktop). Neither sound nor system sounds. I believe it started when I started plugging in my earphones into the jack. I can hear sounds (movies, video) and I can also hear the system sounds. When I unplug the earphones from the jack, there is no sound. I have tried all the website links on how to fix it, I've looked to make sure nothing is muted. I just find it odd that my sounds work fine through earphones.

Oh and P.S. don't do a system restore..it's just a mess! LOL

Hope someone can help me!

System Restore is a very useful tool. I do PC support and it has made me look like "super tech" many times.

First thought, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound module (such as RealTek, IDT, Conexent or whatever you have) and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This will reset the sound module and any corrupted status in Windows.

If that does not fix it, there could be some type of hardware problem that is causing the sound module not to switch back to the speakers. If the PC is still under warranty, contact the Vendor as they are the only ones that can correct it under warranty. All in one's are basically a Laptop PC with a desktop monitor and keyboard/mouse and thus everything is on the motherboard.

Thank you Firebird for replying. I tried it and it still doesn't work. It is not under warranty.

Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound. Some sound devices have an audio manager (e.g. RealTek HD Audio Manager) that will allow reassigning jacks to different uses. e.g. the mic jack as the headphone jack, etc. If yours has this, there is a possibility that will fix it.

What is the PC you have?

That doesn't help. The Gateway model number is needed to check on what you have.

It may also be worth the support charge to contact Gateway and see if they can get it corrected.
