No Stereo Mixer in Recording Devices

I have Windows 7 Pro SP1 32 bit laptop.
It's a ThinkPad Lenovo T60p by IBM.

I've been searching google for ever and ever but I cannot find a fix.

Some sound cards do NOT support stereo mix, regardless of settings.

You can try older drivers--XP or Vista--in compatibility mode. That works in some cases.

If not, you would need to buy another internal or external sound card that is known to support stereo mix in Windows 7.

This thread suggest that the sound card does not support stereo mix. You can get it to show in recording devices but you still can't use it.

You could try the fix if you like but it doesn't sound like it will help. On mine it says unavailable but when I set it as default it works.

What are you trying to do anyway?

I realize this is an old thread but I came across this after finding out about the way they hobbled the Mixer in W7.
I too have T61s and went through this nasty takeover of our abilities to record on our computers by the RIAA.
ignatzatsonic is correct. We went through this nightmare and I won't share what we discovered here.
You can read about it in both the Lenovo and Thinkpad forums and many other forums\blogs.
Stereo Mix can also be referred as 'What You Hear'.

If by chance anyone else is disgusted by this, have no fear, it's easily solved by an external sound card solution.
A great solution for the T61 is the X-Fi Extreme Audio Notebook PC (PCMCIA) card. When the card is installed, it uses it's own drivers.
And when you remove the X-Fi, the laptop automatically switches to the laptops Soundmax drivers. Brilliant.
At the time we were messing with this nonsense, external usb sound solutions were horrible. They have since improved that technology and you might find something via usb.

They've now done this to the Macbook (something nobody dreamed they do to Hollyweird's favorite notebook)
Even worse, they've long been doing this to oem desktops as well. Nasty.
One of the best solutions for those and W7 is the Xonar cards from Asus.
Also look into the subject of WASAPI for more info.
