No text anywhere in windows 7 pro x32

I am running windows 7 pro x32 and I rebooted my computer last night, and there was no text anywhere. I couldn't click the start menu, right click on anything or basically do anythibg to rectify the problem. After an afternoon of internet searching I found that the only solution seemed to be to run sfc /scannow in cmd, and I tried this both in safe mode and ordinary mode but to no avail, although this seemed to work for lots of other people. I even tried reinstalling windows using my dvd copy of the disk using the upgrade feature, which is what you are supposed to do, but had the error that I was upgrading to a lower version, which is apparently because my dvd does not have sp1 installed. I can not download any new disk images as I am posting off my iPod, and have no other way of doing anything technical. I need my computer for homework and other stuff, which I can't do. I do however, have some Ubuntu disks, so it may be possible to do something from the try ubuntu mode, though I am not sure.

Is there any color on your screen of is just black as if nothing is happening?

Do you have a Windows 7 "system image" backup you can simply restore to your C-drive?

Do you have a "system restore point" you can possibly try restoring?

If/when you recover (or end up reinstalling from scratch and starting over), you should plan on a systematic daily/weekly/monthly backup regimen of automatic backups taken at regular intervals, probably using 3rd-party software. You'll never lose anything again.

I use Macrium Reflect Standard to do my weekly "system image" backups, rather than the Windows 7 equivalent. Macrium's product is much more flexible, powerful, and user-friendly, and comes in a free version as well as an inexpensive "standard" version whose additional features (specifically "space management") I found well worth the small price. But the free version works fine for many users.

I use non-free NovaStor's NovaBackup product to do my monthly "full" backups and daily "incremental" backups, backing up all of my data folders/files on C as well as my other partitions D-M, but ignoring the \Windows folders/files as they are very large, and also unnecessary for a "data backup/restore" plan when "system images" are also being taken as I do.

Note that Macrium Reflect also supports the exact same type of "data" backups that NovaBackup does, so you can actually buy Macrium Reflect Standard and use it for your complete backup scheme. I just prefer NovaBackup because (a) it supports backup to tape which I require, and (b) has a simpler, more basic, and more understandable user interface which I actually prefer.

I know this is no comfort or solution to your current problem, but without a recent "system image" you can immediately restore, or at least some "system restore point" you can try to see if that fixes things, you may be doomed to have to start over and reinstall Win7 from scratch.

Using a Ubuntu boot CD copy all your personal files off the hard drive to an external hard drive and then WIPE the internal drive and Reinstall.

Your system is infected with BUGS. Whether you can fix that without a Cleaning of the drive and reinstall is unknown but you could try. you will need to download some off line tools, Virus and malware removal tools, and burn then to DVDs or USB thumb drives. Since you can't download anything on your system you will need to contact a friend to get and burn those tools.

I do have colour in the background, although when I open cmd the background goes black.
I do not have system images, and even if I did, they would not be of much use, as the control panel is dead.
I don't think it is a bug or virus, as I ran a virus scan and it found nothing.
Does anyone have any other suggestions, as I am reluctant ro do a clean install, as I don't have much time to put all of the programs back. I do have backups.

If you ran a virus scan while booted into the OS on the HDD then most all viruses DISABLE the virus program so they won't be detected. You need to run Offline scans from some type of Boot Media, DVD or USB thumb.

Without doing that first there is no way of telling if your system is infected with something.

It has been my Long experience that problems like yours don't Just Happen. There is always an underlying cause to these problems. They include failed hardware or BUGS.
